Title: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Billy_Boy on February 28, 2015, 05:43:56 PM is the mechanical fuel pump (reliant 850) interchangeable with austin mini's ?
Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Olds on February 28, 2015, 06:45:09 PM Not sure but I don't think so. Burlen (SU) list a pump for the A series BMC engine, but don't have one for Reliant 850.
Fifer would be the one to know for sure. Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Billy_Boy on February 28, 2015, 07:49:17 PM Thanks Olds
Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: fifer on February 28, 2015, 11:15:11 PM If changing from an early fuel pump to the later pumps you need to fit a spacer with a gasket either side between the pump and the block . You would also need the longer studs .
Do not buy any fuel pump with plastic tops as the inlet and outlet spouts can come loose . Reliant sell the pump http://www.reliantpartsworld.co.uk/reliant-robin/robin-fuel-system/fuel-pump mini pump http://www.minispares.com/product/classic/AZX1818MS.aspx I have fitted the Mini pump in the past but have always got the Reliant pump . Whether the new Reliant pumps are as reliable as the old pumps , I cannot comment on . When fitting the new pump make sure that the curved drive sits on top of the cam when inserting . This is easy to check as the pump will be tilted in towards the engine at the top and when you press on the pump to line it up you will feel a springy resistance . When the pump is fitted in place check that the pump is correctly fitted by using a spanner on the timing pulley nut to turn the engine 2 or three revolutions by hand . . Post by: Billy_Boy on March 01, 2015, 01:13:23 AM Many thanks Fifer, no fuel pump fitted on this engine, but my mate has a couple of mini ones I can pinch, just trying to save a few quid ;D
Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: fifer on March 01, 2015, 12:07:54 PM Have a look at the angled bit which fits inside the engine ;
http://www.minispares.com/product/classic/AZX1818MS.aspx I have not used the following type ; http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Fuel/Pumps/AZX1818.aspx?1303&ReturnUrl=/product/classic/AZX1818MS.aspx|Back%20to and remember it needs the spacer ; http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Engine/Block/Gaskets/GUG705603GM.aspx?100108&ReturnUrl=/product/Classic/Fuel/Pumps/AZX1818.aspx|Back%20to , Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Billy_Boy on March 01, 2015, 01:54:45 PM Thanks Fifer, will find a spacer, or an original reliant pump ;)

Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Billy_Boy on March 01, 2015, 03:35:41 PM Thanks Bobbi, I seriously underestimated how much this build was going to cost (probably along with the rest of you ) :)
Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: ROD on March 01, 2015, 05:26:20 PM Ive made a spacer from a couple of thicknesses of something like 6mm perspex in the past.
Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Billy_Boy on March 01, 2015, 06:05:16 PM Thanks for that Rod, but we managed to locate a spacer ;D

Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: BikerGran on March 05, 2015, 07:44:47 PM I did that just rebuilding a bike as standard!
BTW Billy Boy - re the thread title - I don't think these folks believe in such a thing as a silly question! Title: Re: Probably a silly question but ............ Post by: Billy_Boy on March 05, 2015, 07:49:49 PM That's good to know, I have hundreds of them ;)
