Title: Hill Climbs - the competition sort - open to spectators
Post by: Tony oily bike on February 20, 2015, 07:01:16 PM
Just for info

Apart from the closed-road hillclimbs like Kop Hill and Shere (non-competitive for road-legal vehicles), there are various competition Hillclimbs that spectators can go and view, with close quarter access to the vehicles both on the track and in the paddocks.

Hillclimbing still has the friendly feel of a clubman's event, and vehicles can vary from vintage, V8 powered single-seaters that resemble grand prix cars, to motorcycles and specialist 3-wheelers.

Gurston Down is near Salisbury in Wiltshire, and a quick look at their website shows spectator prices from £6 up to £10

Shelsey Walsh has been going for over 100 years and is located in Worcestershire

Prescott is located near Cheltenham, and also runs non-competitive events as part of its calendar. Andy has a thread for the VSCC event later on this year

I used to go to Gurston every year, always wanted to take my litt 100 stroker up the hill and see what it did through the speed trap!  It's good fun there, you can wander round the paddock and talk to people about their machines, most of them are very ready to chat unless they're in the middle of a big problem!

The VSCC meet at Prescott was a fabulous day out. Amazing atmosphere & as Bobbi says, you can wander anywhere you like through paddocks & pits filled with a couple of million quid's worth of vintage machinery. Pricey at 25 quid for the Sunday, but I hope to get there again this year.

Agree with Andy, great day!

Had a look to see how £25 spectator ticket compared with some other 2015 events::
Motorsport at the Palace (Crystal palace) in May, £10 a day.
Stock car racing around £14
Shere hillclimb was £8 for 2014
Brands club event £14 race day
Brands Historic F1 & historic touring car race meet, £25 race day
Silverstone April VSCC race day £9
London motorcycle show £20
