Title: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 13, 2015, 08:06:11 PM hello every one I have acquired a b tyre axle for a Build of mine took the break covers off and I have noticed that one side turnes at normal speed and the other side is very slow when turning shaft. Is this right or is there some think seriously wrong
Cheers bash Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: morrag on February 13, 2015, 08:53:44 PM Try "Googling" differential...............................
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: terry t on February 13, 2015, 09:12:08 PM Do it also rotate the other way ???
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 13, 2015, 09:41:44 PM I don't think so
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: Olds on February 13, 2015, 10:07:34 PM Chances are that it did :) Don't worry about it as long as both sides turn and there are no horrid noises. Lock one side at a time to check all is ok.
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: terry t on February 13, 2015, 10:25:01 PM Also if you have it apart count the number of teeth on the crown and pinion wheels just to make sure its a B type
What type of trike you building reliant or bike engine Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 14, 2015, 11:21:10 AM I checked it today and it does rotate the other way. Still slow ill have to strip it all down and try to find whats going on with it. Any one got a maual for stripping. Easy to hard job etc
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: terry t on February 14, 2015, 11:47:34 AM Hi ash. your axle is fine they all do it. it they both turned together in the same direction then you would have problems.
what are you putting on reliant or bike engine Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: Olds on February 14, 2015, 12:46:33 PM Terry is correct. The fact that one side rotates the other way, or at a different speed really is not a problem.
If they rotated the same way and at the same speed it would mean you had a welded or locked diff. Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 14, 2015, 04:30:08 PM I'm waiting on a hard tail frame. Would of liked a v twin as the donor engine but frame is made for an tea pot engine. Brought the axle on a whim say b on the stamp.can get pic

Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 14, 2015, 06:49:43 PM Air oil cooled engine. Bandit gsxr
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: Manky Monkey on February 14, 2015, 06:55:12 PM Ahh, right-o.
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: terry t on February 14, 2015, 09:43:45 PM If you use that tea pot engine check drive rotation as you may have to turn the axle over
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 15, 2015, 01:31:18 AM yeah I heard some one else say that as well. gsx1100g will be the engine of choice if it go with the teapot engine
Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: Olds on February 15, 2015, 08:23:42 AM With the GSX you will have to flip the axle.
With bevel drives, if the drive shaft is on the RHS you don't need to. On the LHS you do (Right is right, left is wrong). Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: BikerGran on February 15, 2015, 11:34:54 AM With bevel drives, if the drive shaft is on the RHS you don't need to. On the LHS you do (Right is right, left is wrong). I didn't know that Olds! I knew that the axle had to be flipped for my Kwak GT550, but I didn't know it depended which side the drive is - of course it's obvious now you say it! ::) Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: hunter on February 15, 2015, 07:21:07 PM Does that mean, if i turn my engine upside down i can leave the axle as it is.
I know Get your coat. ;D Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: ash on February 15, 2015, 07:52:16 PM quick question guys alloys gonna go with 100pcd and use wobbley nuts any good or bad idea

Title: Re: confused about my axle Post by: andyrennison on February 15, 2015, 10:57:50 PM This is worth a watch Ash. Someone posted it on here a while ago (I forget who), it really explains differentials well. And it is really cool retro as well :)

The new holes move in, so do not weaken the hub, you get stronger studs, and the axle is no wider.
Just my own thoughts, buying adapters might ultimately be easier though. Have a look here, http://www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13578.120 Huw |
