Title: Old style radiator.
Post by: Olds on February 08, 2015, 09:35:41 AM
I am trying to find an old style rad. ie- top to bottom flow, built in header tank with central cap, to suit BMC A series 1100 engine. Not too worried about hose positions but must be no wider than 14" and 20" tall.
Anyone any ideas ?

Have you looked at old Mini ? It's thI most readily available one i can think of that may suit . Sticking it at the front will double it's cooling capabilities as it has a high efficiency core due to original sidemount position.

Thanks guys.
I have a brand new Mini one, still boxed, came with the car. And yes it fits. Unfortunately its an ally one.
Will look for a brass/copper one like on the trike. Reason? I would like to fit the calorimeter through the rad shell.  A separate header tank might be the easiest way to go.

The inlet & outlet are in different places & the top of the rad's a slightly different shape if memory serves me right, (it rarely does).

Loads of variances on tank shapes, even  within the same  car model ,depends on who the original manufacturers were. It what we used to sell to fit them;)  Just like Mk1 /2 Escorts rads superceded all Cortinas , Anglias ,Corsairs ,Classics and Consul Capris they don't look the same but fit and do the job ...unless  you are doing a 100 point resto .
