Title: FaceBook trike Post by: Manky Monkey on December 12, 2014, 10:44:21 AM It's a couple of years since I sold my last trike, (hurry up & finish it Baychimp!), but that doesn't mean I don't get to thinking about another from time to time.
Saw this one on FaceBook earlier & really like it. Wonder how it handles? Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: BikerGran on December 12, 2014, 10:50:50 AM I'm quite surprised that you like that.
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: panthershaun on December 12, 2014, 10:53:18 AM I have enough part's to build an Indian version of that Andy ;)
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Olds on December 12, 2014, 11:12:23 AM Not overly keen myself, but hey-ho it's different. :)
I have enough part's to build an Indian version of that Andy ;) Why does that not surprise me Shaun !Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Manky Monkey on December 12, 2014, 12:00:25 PM When you feel the need for a garage clear out Shaun, send 'em my way please!
So what would be your ideal trike then chaps? The one you've got or one you've seen somewhere else? Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: the coppersmith on December 12, 2014, 02:27:50 PM This one would be OK for me, it is C*******mas.......soon!

I'm never happy with just one style ,must have at least 4 different versions buzzing round in head but they NEED to stay there! Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: terry t on December 12, 2014, 06:27:56 PM The one I got spent a long time building it want to enjoy riding it before I think of a new build. then that will be a Swedish style one

I always liked trikes cos, unlike bikes & cars, there don't seem to be any rules on styling -nobody says You can't do that cos it's not the accepted trend. They've definitely evolved over the past decade or so though & more people are building them just cos they like them & not because they can't ride a 2 wheeler any more. Mind you, I still hear a few bikers trotting out the same ol' line: They're the worst of both Worlds. You get stuck in traffic like a car & stuck in the weather like a bike. Invariably, the guys who say that, (including a regular at Loony's workshop), have never ridden one. Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: hunter on December 12, 2014, 08:24:09 PM I have a Pan european here Terry,Was thinking of doing the same thing.
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Olds on December 12, 2014, 08:25:41 PM You get stuck in traffic like a car & stuck in the weather like a bike. This to a degree is true but riding a trike is so different to either a bike or car. You really can't compare the experience.Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: the coppersmith on December 12, 2014, 08:36:21 PM @ Twisted: Great trike and I could just about take the bottom one on as well
@ Olds: sorry forgot about yours, I could fall for that one too, yep, luv it. @ Swedish trike ??? wots that then mister?? Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Olds on December 12, 2014, 08:49:25 PM Swedish trike. As far as I understand it think of 70s choppers and you will get a general idea. Usually very long forks, short ass and often with a VW flat four mounted the wrong way round with an extra transmission case as a spacer. Sounds strange but somehow it works.
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: the coppersmith on December 12, 2014, 09:09:35 PM like the Vdub upside down bit, had a bit of an episode with a chopper dont want to go there again

Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: panthershaun on December 13, 2014, 10:05:25 AM Indian Despatch tow, then maybe a Hardly Servi-car or Mr Old's Reliant servi-car styled beast... bit of a theme here ;) not really a trikey sort of chap, if I want a stripped down opened topped machine I would go for a basic model T speedster or modified myself :D
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: minimutly on December 13, 2014, 05:33:41 PM A v6 version of this is on the cards, with a fwd xverse gearbox, with the prop shaft coming out of the end (what was the side ) of the box
Anyone ever done this with a fwd box? Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Plasticpig on December 13, 2014, 06:06:09 PM Huw. I had a look at those Mini Cooper drive shaft couplers which you mentioned, to possibly fit on the end of the 4th/5th gear shaft of this Fiesta box. I remembered how the kit car crowd turn around a bike engine and fit an adaptor over the drive splines to convert it to shaft. Looking around the net I found a company who make one-off adaptors, but I have not got hold of them yet for a price. http://www.baileymorris.co.uk/bespoke.html This is just one of the several options I have been thinking about, depending on cost. Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: minimutly on December 13, 2014, 11:11:26 PM Thanks for that plasticpig, I think this should be a neat solution, short unit.
Huw Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Plasticpig on December 14, 2014, 08:41:38 AM Cheers Mate. If I were to use the whole Fiesta box, I would still have the problem of having the gear selector on the right hand side, with the H gate being left to right. Apart from confusing any potential theives, it would be bloody awkward to use. How about some long rods and bell-cranks to move it to the left hand side, and a front to back H gate? Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Olds on December 14, 2014, 08:59:39 AM I shouldn't worry too much about a gearshift being on the RH side, though a sideways H gate might be a bit awkward.
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: scannerzer on December 14, 2014, 09:27:35 AM what about a cable operated gearbox rather than rods
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: the coppersmith on December 14, 2014, 10:36:46 AM I'm interested in this, so, to get my facts right, you swivel a fwd 90 degrees and take a prop from a drive shaft to a diff? Do you have to modify the gearbox drive shaft assembly? This could open a whole new set of plans for me. More research for google ;)
Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: Plasticpig on December 14, 2014, 10:59:49 AM Mr Coppersmith.
Thats the idea I had. I was going to either weld up the Fiesta diff, or just have the other drive shaft on a bracket welded to the frame to stop it turning, but after listening to members who know a lot more than me, who said the ratio's would be all wrong, it was suggested that I try and run a shaft out of the back of the gearbox. The five speed Fiesta box that I have has an extra cog sitting on the forth gear shaft, and if I understand correctly, that cog can be taken off, and an adaptor made up to join a propshaft to a normal axle. What I have at the moment is an 1100 Ford Crossflow. A Fiesta box which will bolt straight on to the back, and a VW Beetle trans. Options are- 1. Engine> Fiesta box with all the gubbins taken out and used as an adaptor plate >VW trans. 2. Engine > Fiesta box with everything in place, and a shaft coming out of the back of the gearbox >some sort of axle. Mr Scannerizer. I actually looked at a box out of a Bedford Rascal, but they are like hens teeth to find now. If I stick with the vw trans which I have at the moment, I would only have to find an extended set of rods from back to front. Title: Re: FaceBook trike Post by: minimutly on December 14, 2014, 11:47:14 AM There's all kinds of things that can be done with the selector - MGf uses cables, which could be adapted to a rod very easily, my mgzt uses cables ( although you wouldn't know it), which move a selector in two planes.
On my hill climb tf I've bored through the box so the rod comes out the front and will do away with the cables completely. I have to say though, some sort of auto would be my choice if I could do it, don't fancy hanging on with one hand on full chat on a v6. I could of course buy s sequential kit from quaife, but £5000 odd is not my idea of fun. As long as the 5th gear overhangs the bearing set it's relatively easy, otherwise you would need to use a roller type bearing withe the output shaft fed through it - fraught with difficulties.
