Manky Monkey Motors

I've just insured my daily driver. Had a renewal quote from Aviva, who I've been with since I bought the car about 7 years ago. I don't usually bother shopping around, but the quote seemed a bit high, (£289 fully comp'), so with prompting from a few workmates, I visited the site of Alexander the Meerkat.
Saga, the club for those of, erm, more mature years, did exactly the same cover for over a hundred quid less. There were other companies doing it for less but I decided to go with a name I'd heard of.
So at 52 years old, I've joined the Saga generation. Is this the beginning of the end? The start of a slippery slope to comfy slippers, cosy cardigans & weekends spent in garden centres & DIY stores? Will I find myself perusing the adverts in the back of the Telegraph Sunday supplement & remarking what a good idea all those labour saving devices are? If I cancel the roadtrip to the Dutch hotrod show next year in favour of a Winter cruise with my fellow Sagaers, please, please save me.

I've been there done that, pleased to say I have now come through it ( middle age) and now can be a mad old aged git. Bit of the Victor Meldrew I suppose. People make excuses for me now, "sorry, its only the old man,pay no attention". My son is now 40 and realises that the speed of life is getting greater, no more "come and meet the old folk"  ;D ;D enjoy it while you can, you only pass this way once, ensure you leave a mark :D ;)

It's not the beginning of the end, it's the beginning of a constant stream of letters from Saga offering you insurance for all sorts of things you never thought of - I've had about one a month on average ever since I got one-off travel insurance from Saga for a holiday Mike and I had 3 years ago!

Still, it keeps the posties in work I guess!   ;D

Should see if they'll cover the pop.

I have noticed all the nicest looking apartment complexes in any town seem to be retirement homes  :P
Even Lunatic, who's 20 years younger than me, gets advertising from Saga -get 'em while they're young!
I've got a genuinely bad memory. Never used to -at least I don't think I did, but it's getting noticeably worse, enough that I've worried sometimes that it's the early stages of dementia or something. Now I'll just accept that it's a Saga symptom. It's me age you know.

I bought myself a t shirt when my first grandchild came along, it reads;  'Grandpa's are Dad's with out rules'  and I fully live up to the now sacred words, much to my wife and daughters disgust   ;D ;D

Think I'm missing out, or perhaps I'm just not old enough yet. :D

I came up with the idea and a friend, James De'ath ( yes ,REALLY) , came up with the artwork based on a Waffen SS skull!  With sale of stickers and T shirts raised around £1500 for the local hospice.

Still got mine somewhere.
