its a 1982 vt500 in need of some serious TLC

it some how lost the timing on the front cylinder,the first revolution broke the head off a valve the next one punched the stem through the top of the piston. the chap i bought it from had been told it was a runner but it wasn't for sure.

not sure what the plan for it is but it's shaft drive so maybe a trike but for now if anyone have a front piston and complete head for a vt 500 proping up a table in the shed i'd be glad to here from you  ;D

That's nuthin'. My brother, Brock, recently managed to do this to his brand new drag car engine on it's first run. That's the head of a valve wedged sideways in the exhaust port.

Didn't do the piston much good in his engine either.
The little VT motor should make a nice trike.

Yeah, it's best not to do that apparently.

i bought a suzuki bandit in four boxes a few years ago but i think there should of been five

When I was rebuilding the Superdream my family bought me as a project I was asked if I'd be interested in buying one that someone had stripped - I jumped at the chance till I foound that meant STRIPPED right down to the last nut and bolt, cog, spring, bearing.....

It was stored in a couple of filing cabinets so I bought them as well!  Turned out I had about a bike and a half!

bet you paniced when you'd bit left over

Unlike the Brit bike days of yore, buying non running Nipponese machinery is generally a non "goer", as spares prices are usually prohibitive to make it worthwhile, you only have to look at the simple essentials like gasket sets, for example!! crazy, so, not for me, particularly when usually for a few 100 notes more you can usually buy a runner...... that's my experience,in recent times, so caveat emptor y'all ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

yep Morrag thats the case here but hope to get a second hand engine
