Brightona is an event to raise money for charity. It has a lovely atmosphere and there is usually plenty going on. This event is for motorbikes/trikes/scooters predominantly but over the past few years more hot rods and american classics have been coming along as well. Brightona runs 9am-5pm. Lovely to see Mankies Muffin (Simon) and Michelle who were visiting on their very well known trike (their Harley needed work). Also Terry T. Mind you Terry I think I have to say 'we must start meeting like this' as I saw your trike and I saw you drive out but otherwise I didn't see much of you. Same thing at the Burnup.
Lovely weather up to about 2pm but then the rain started. Still, a great turnout with each rider donating £5. Therefore the funds raised should be pretty good especially with income from t shirts, badges, patches etc. There were three different stages giving us a good choice of bands to listen to over the roar of the bikes. The styles included: Country and Western, Rock 'n' Roll, Soft Rock, and Thrash Metal. One stage was just dedicated to youngsters. I only saw the one band on this stage: they looked to be 14/15 years old and they were bashing out some thrash type music which their audience was really enjoying. This stage was a really good idea as it gave youngsters a platform to try out their stuff with a live audience. No Wall of Death this year but they did have a large metal sphere which up to 2 bikes rode around in. At one point, 1 bike was going around the sphere east to west while the other was going north to south. I hope that is understandable! Very impressive. 8) There was also the roped off area for the show bikes. Quite an interesting selection. Very eclectic. There were some beautifully designed custom bikes next to a highly restored Lambretta while a rat bike sat nearby. There was also brilliant artwork and super paint jobs. In front of these on the road, sat the show trikes. Again, quite a mix. There were a lot of trikes at the show. Some straight from the manufacturer, some looking very unroadworthy and others that made you think 'that is a good idea - that trike is really well thought out and well built'. I don't know who won the show bikes/trikes as we had already left but I am sure you will be commenting when you see them. :o ??? :'( :o As I said, great turnout of bikes but there was also a number of hot rods or classic vehicles. Somehow, this side of the show just hasn't caught on. Maybe they worry that the way the bikes are packed in, the vehicles will get damaged. It would be nice however, to see these vehicles and the many clubs they represent, supporting the Sussex Heart Charity. Chevy Rick as always took loads of photos so I'm sure they will be uploaded soon and Coppersmith, keep an eye out (nudge nudge wink wink)! ▶ ▶ ;) ;) As I have said before, I prefer this show to the Ace Cafe Brighton Burnup which was last month as it has more atmosphere and lots more stalls, as well as the cracking entertainment. I just hope all of those who went, arrived home safely. The bikers do tend to come out of Brighton like a mad swarm especially those who are in a group and are trying to keep together. We were in the car but one biker came up the outside of us with very little room to manoeuvre. If Rick hadn't have spotted him and held back I don't think he would have made it before he ran out of road. Can't say I've really noticed it advertised in the car media Jay Jay. Maybe drivers just don't know it's on. I only know it as a bike event. Book me in for some of your events next year. Plymouth is only 4 hours hard riding/driving to Brighton, gotta be worth it ;D
