Title: Plymouth Hoe Jag event
Post by: the coppersmith on August 09, 2014, 07:39:07 PM
This is being held tomorrow, weather and hurricanes permitting, my ex boss is showing 3 rare Jaguars all of which I spent many hours Tig welding the alloy on, and beating it back to shape, hence ex boss ;)

Thank you, roving reporter.  ;)
I've always wondered -were mark 2 Jags fitted with wire wheels as standard, as a factory option, or not at all? Seems almost every example I see has them, but I actually prefer steels, (they just look more ...serious to me, not so showy).

wire wheels were a factory option, make sure you get the left and right hand hubs the right way around, 'cos the wheels fall off else ;D. Something to do before I die? learn how to spoke a wheel, fascinating.

Speak to my brother, Mr Brock. He laces wheels for drag cars.
When I was a teenager I used to take my Brit bike rims to Bettie, the old lady at the local bike shop, (or at least she seemed old when I was 18). She'd straighten out my wobbly spokes almost while I waited -turns out she was Mr Olds' aunt.

My dad used to do that as a second income, I was to "busy" to learn things like that, I had girls to chase, leather jacket to wear, get the picture? Hindsite, is a truly great thing

Know what you mean. I was sent packing from Bettie's shop on more than one occasion for being "lippy" to her. Obviously, being an 18 year old lad, I knew it all.
It'd only be after she'd banned me from the shop till I apologised that I'd realise she had my wheels & I was going nowhere till I'd slunk back in & mumbled an apology.

Firework championship? -between whom? How do they judge it? Great shots by the way.

It seems that 6 firework manufacturers compete over 2 nights, judging is subjective, by 3 celebrity judges, normally a Councillor, fire chief and a local TV star, best one walks off with a cash prize and a gold cup. Been going 13 years now, and brings thousands on to Plymouth Hoe, this year they had MTV crash, then the car and bus show, military bands, then this, Plymouth has come alive (again) and long may it continue.
