Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: Manky Monkey on August 08, 2014, 06:14:00 PM I'm guessing that's not Martin in the stilettos.
Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: stinkey on August 08, 2014, 06:41:34 PM Cheers Andy, the lady is Mrs Stinkey AKA Maria..she's 5.5 but nigh on 6 ft in her heels ? ..oh you mean details on the trike ? He.he.. Well it's obviously reliant powered, home built chassis using what we had lying about..an old 70s springer front end with a motorcross front wheel I got from a bike jumble, the headlight Martin got at a Harley jumble..the back wheels Martin originally had on his jag..fitted with adapters to the reliant back axle..I made a propshaft disc/handbrake using an old calliper off an old trials bike..the petrol tank is off a Harley ? The seat is an old style tractor type off eBay ..the rear seat frame was made from more scrap tubing and both seats covered by Glenn Moger in tuck n roll style..( tan and black )
Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: Baychimp on August 08, 2014, 09:06:14 PM I love the wire wheels on the back, good choice. Oh I bet he only lent her those heels, took them straight back after the photos were taken. ;D ;D

What diameter wheels have you got on the back?
Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: Olds on August 10, 2014, 09:48:39 AM Speedo error perhaps. Unless it's a very early axle.
Lovely pics as usual Stinky Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: hunter on August 10, 2014, 10:34:25 AM As Olds says early axle,
The wheels look big enough 15ish. And Mrs stinkey looks lovely as always, And ov course the trike looks good. ;D Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: stinkey on August 11, 2014, 10:23:29 PM Should be good for 75 -80 ish. What diameter wheels have you got on the back? The wheels are 15 inch tall and I'd say the tyres are about 27/28 inch tall ?Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: Manky Monkey on August 12, 2014, 02:40:08 PM Mine used to average about 24". 15" rims with 50 profile tyres. Taller tyres should give you a higher top end though, although if you go too tall you'll struggle to pull away & will lose acceleration.
Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: stinkey on August 13, 2014, 10:05:56 AM Seems to pull away ok, but Martin said it's struggling on the hills and top end is 60 mph ? So I thought a set of higher gears would help the top end ? I was hoping the taller tyres would have helped ?
Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: the coppersmith on August 13, 2014, 12:41:23 PM Not being rude or nowt, but my son reckons my 600kg. kit car is flat ! He weighs in over 18stone, I weigh in at a trim 13 stone, the difference in pulling with that 125 bhp car is very noticeable when he is in it.

So I thought a set of higher gears would help the top end ? I was hoping the taller tyres would have helped ? Other way round really as the torque produced by the Reliant is the deciding factor in what it will pull. Using 24/25" tall tyres on the Reliant gearing reduces 4th gear to an overdrive really. Essentially with 28" tall tyres you have added 3mph per 1000rpm to the gearing. That is slowing down the acceleration and adding about another 1/2 a gear to each gearbox position. My trike will pull very strongly in first second and third and will reach just about 80mph in 4th. If it had that same gearing with the original Reliant body on it that acceleration and top speed would be greatly reduced. 'You' are creating the same effect by asking the engine struggle to pull in each gear. Roughly mine is geared to 5mph /1st 10mph/2nd 15mph/3rd and 20 mph/4th . You'll be looking at 8/ 13/ 18/ 23 so you can see how far out the gearing is by comparison. If you look at these details on Fifers site you'll see how far out the gearings are against a standard Reliant ie my gearing is 80 mph at 4000 , standard Reliant 4500 , 'your' gearing 3480 roughly. https://sites.google.com/site/fifersrelianthintsandtips/speed-calculator-chart/speed-chart-10-inch-standard-axle Title: Re: Martin's trike Post by: saex69 on August 13, 2014, 09:25:08 PM Great looking trike Mr Stinkey them long leg's look great ermm i mean springer's what length are they.
