Title: Pressed reflective plates?
Post by: kapri on May 16, 2014, 09:29:38 PM
I'm struggling to find someone who can make a pressed reflective bike plate for a Q . Any suggestions?  Firm where I could get them done sold up about 18 months back, and he was only 2 miles down the road.

Remember I had exactly the same problem with the front one for the Pop Kev?! Ended up with Perspex on mine.

Cheers Dave but just to be awkward I'm looking for a States size plate ,well at least until I give in and buy a stocker !

Andy , yup, I remember, I'm chasing my old supplier to see if he sold all the equipmnt as well or just the business side.

So you want:- a, motorcycle number plate
                     b, pressed numbers
                     c, reflective
                     d, American sized (12"x 6" ?)

Nope, can't help you there.

13" x 7" to be totally legally Dave ;) 12" x 6£ is only a get out on Imports and the space from letter to edge , top and bottom is 10mm shy. I could have got them made where i used to work no probs but they have also bitten the dust:(

The problem with most suppliers is they have no idea of how to do it:( . White front in pressed m/c characters with embossed BSau145d ISN'T an issue to make you just have to think about it and cut down an 11x 8  commercial front plate . Same as what I want , a cutdown  XJ6 , or new Rover 75 rear blank and it could be made.

One of the problems is that most are after a quick turnround for no effort or don't understand the law . Acrylic plates are dead easy to make you can even run them off on a computerised printer, we used to have to hand cut them using a pastry cutter type thing with a 40 ton press. Same press was used on clapper dies to press out ali plates.

Nowadays everyone can make number plates in their bedroom. Pressed ali plates used to be tremendously popular with the Commercial guys as it cost a fortune to keep replacing broken acrylic.

Likewise " oh, we can't do 13 x7 because it's not a legal size. The regs dictate the MINIMUM space around a plate not the maximum :)

The biggest problem is the letter Q , hence why I'm now also trying to track down my mates old equipment.

I'm having a set of State Plates done  but need a legal one as well ;)

So far 15 enquiries to various suppliers and 3 replies . No wonder people are struggling to make a living with customer service like that  >:( ::)
