Title: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: Manky Monkey on March 10, 2014, 08:52:31 PM Right, it's that time of year again. Our ape adoption's just expired & I've had the letter from MonkeyWorld asking if we'd like to renew it.
For those who are new to the forum since last year, we sponsor a chimpanzee called Micky at the MonkeyWorld ape rescue centre in Dorset, (the one featured in the TV shows). It started off as a bit of a joke, but over the years we've raised over a thousand quid towards the upkeep & rehabilitation of the various breeds at the park, which is something to be proud of I think. We've also got a paving slab in one of the "walks of thanks" around the park, engraved with the MMMotors logo. To qualify for the group adoption, we have to raise a minimum of £120, plus £1.50 postage, so £121.50 So, once again I've got to ask -are we up for this for another year? As I try to make clear, there's absolutely no pressure on anyone to take part, it's a purely voluntary thing for those that want to. We usually run a list here for a couple of weeks, so if you'd like to donate, just cut & paste the list & add your name to the bottom. We always set the donation at £10, but obviously money's tight at the moment, & I'm certainly not gonna judge you if you want to give less. I can't offer you much in return- we get a 3 monthly news letter with info on all the park's residents, a photo of "our boy" Micky & a certificate, but most importantly, a ticket for free entry for up to 30 people to MonkeyWorld. It's a one shot thing -we only get to use it once, so we arrange a trip down to Dorset on the last Sunday in April. That's the 27th of April 2014. Put it in your diaries & come along. Bring the kids & have a free day out. If we gather more than 30 people, obviously free entry will go to those who've donated first, but we usually only manage a dozen or so cos it's difficult to pick a date when everyone's free, (we figure the end of April's best, before we all start booking up for shows & rallies). You don't have to have a custom vehicle to come along. Just stuff the family in your daily driver & meet us there. Once we're through the gates, everyone's free to wander off & do their own thing, then leave whenever they're ready. Very informal, just a thank you for contributing & a chance to meet some fellow forumers. http://www.monkeyworld.org/ Donations by PayPal, cheque or cash to me please, (I'll PM you the details), & I'll pay the final amount to the nice people at MonkeyWorld. O.K, let's start a list. Remember, please don't feel you have to, but if you'd like to, just add your name. Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: JayJay on March 12, 2014, 12:52:40 AM For those who haven't been before, the Monkey World site is quite big. As well as all the monkey compounds, there are various play areas spread about the site for children. The furthest one is very big and the children just love it.
I took my own mobility scooter last year but they have quite a few that they rent out for free. You just need to book ahead (the earlier the better) and with some ID and a refundable deposit on the day of £10, you are off and wheeling. I know I couldn't manage without a scooter at MW so if you are in the same boat, don't let reduced mobility stop you (and your family) from joining us for a good day out. Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: Manky Monkey on April 03, 2014, 08:08:26 PM PMs sent guys. Thank you.
Jay Jay, it can be any date you like, (after we've completed the adoption obviously). He's your monkey, you lot decide when you'd like to visit him. :) Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: Manky Monkey on April 06, 2014, 08:46:59 PM Mr Twisted. Not heard from you -still want to contribute? (absolutely no pressure). PM me one way or the other please.
Alright guys, several people have contacted me about the date for this, so I've got to make an executive decision. I know it might ruffle a few feathers, but we've got to be fair to as many as we can & some have to book time off work or whatever -so I'm gonna stick with our original date, the same as we've done for the past few years. So that's Sunday, the 27th of April '14. I'll wait till the middle of this week, then sort the adoption out over the phone, to make sure we get the paperwork in time. As always, I'm amazed & proud at your generosity. You really are the nicest people. :-* Although our group entry ticket gives free entry to up to 30 people, we do struggle to fill it. It's a free day out! All you've gotta do is make your own way there, (near Wareham in Dorset, right next to the Bovington tank museum). We just meet up in the carpark, go through the turnstile together, then you're free to do your own thing for the day. There's a restaurant, shop, huge play area etc, so lots for kids to do. We don't expect you to turn up on a trike or hotrod or whatever, we won't try & sell you anything, (promise), & you don't have to have contributed to join in -so bring the family & come say Hi to our boy Micky the chimpanzee. Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: Manky Monkey on April 21, 2014, 10:33:01 PM O.K guys. Time to bump this up the page.
Meeting in the carpark of MonkeyWorld, near Wareham, Dorset at 11.0.clock, this Sunday, that's the 27th of April '14. Free entry for up to 30 people, so whether you've donated or not, come along & have a day out. Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: JayJay on April 25, 2014, 05:48:07 PM Is it still on for Sunday Andy, as the forecast is cold and wet with little let up from the rain? Seems a shame to use the ticket when it won't be very nice out in the open (which most of MW is). This is what happened in 2012 and we rescheduled to later in the year. I know you said someone's booked off work for this date but I wouldn't think they would want others to lose out because of it. Can you let me know please.
JJ :) Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: Manky Monkey on April 25, 2014, 05:54:21 PM Yeah, I've been wondering about that JJ. I've got absolutely soaked at work today, (I'm a Postman), & it ain't no fun.
Anyone know what the forcast is for the weekend & hands up those who want to go or postpone? (waiting till the weather improves may well give more people a chance to go). I hate having to make decisions about this kind of thing -you guys gave the money -what do you want to do? Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: JayJay on April 26, 2014, 05:38:24 AM Off out soon but just checked the weather for tomorrow and it is looking a bit brighter. Still wet at times but not as bad.
Can someone check the weather about 6ish and then post yes or no. If it's yes, I will go shopping and get picnic stuff. I hope the weather does stay reasonable as my Grandsons are looking forward to going. Here is a link. http://m.accuweather.com/en/gb/wareham/bh20-4/hourly-weather-forecast/327671?day=2 (http://m.accuweather.com/en/gb/wareham/bh20-4/hourly-weather-forecast/327671?day=2) JJ :) Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: twisted on April 26, 2014, 09:58:29 AM Happy to postpone till the weather's better. Dont really want to drive for hours then get soak whilst not seeing much. Better weather might get more of us together ;)
Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: Manky Monkey on April 26, 2014, 01:38:18 PM Jay Jay, I've sent you a text.
Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: JayJay on April 26, 2014, 06:18:38 PM Hi All,
Andy has left it up to us to decide and after speaking to Phunkie Hiboy we have agreed it would be better to wait for a nicer day and reschedule in the near future. Hope that is okay with you too Twisted and anyone else who was thinking of going (however I think it was just us three). JJ :) Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: BikerGran on April 26, 2014, 06:54:06 PM I was planning to come along and say hi to folks in the car park before heading off to Dorchester to catch up with the second half of a charity rideout - but only if the weather was ok!
Title: Re: Rent a Monkey time again Post by: twisted on April 26, 2014, 07:24:37 PM yeah JJ that is fine with me and my family. look forward to when the weather is better and we can all meet up ;)
