Title: increaseing compression on a reliant Post by: col on November 18, 2006, 02:56:34 PM hi all
I am toying with skiming the head from my reliant engine to increase compression how much should i take off and is there drawbacks col Title: Re: increaseing compression on a reliant Post by: toad on November 18, 2006, 09:46:37 PM my first question is! why do you want to raise the compression??? i take it your after more get up and go! theres a lot of factors to take into account if your planning to skim the head for more compression. theres plenty of other tricks to raise the horsepower! gis an idea of what your after and i,ll try to give you a guiding hand!

I have just taken the head off and it looks like the valves have been passing I will sort that but I am interested in more top end col Title: Re: increaseing compression on a reliant Post by: toad on November 21, 2006, 10:18:41 PM first things you can try!
drop the fan. and fit an electric one. secondly cross match the ports. ie make sure that the ports match up no lips between the mateing faces. thirdly ign timing. can be fun trying to get this right as not all engines like the factory settings! if you look at the timing mark on the pulley 10deg btdc divide in half so you get 5deg btdc then half again to get 2.5deg btdc then play with the timing! you,ve got six variations there! try each setting with or without the vacum advance pipe fitted! you,ll know when you,ve got it right as the motor wont pink or rattle and you,ll definatley notice the differance! but watch this space as im gonna post a right up on tuning a reliant soon if ya get stuck pm me your no and i,ll call ya!
