Title: Drink driving in France Post by: BikerGran on January 30, 2014, 10:25:01 PM This happened to an Englishman in France who was totally drunk.
The French gendarme stopped the car and asked the gentleman if he had been drinking. Speaking with some difficulty, the Englishman admits that he has been drinking all day, that his daughter got married in the morning to a French man, and that he drank champagne and a couple of bottles of wine at the reception and quite a few glasses of single malt there after. Quite upset, the gendarme proceeded to breath test him and asks the Englishman if he knows under French Law why he has just been arrested. The Englishman answers: "No. - Do you know that this is a British car and that my wife is the driver... on the other side??? He got stopped and admitted to the cop that he had been drinking, he was told to get out of the car and was promptly handcuffed. Only then did he say that it was a British car and his wife was driving. the cop was very embarrased and apologetic but my mate just laughed it off for which the cop was really grateful.

Title: Re: Drink driving in France Post by: Olds on January 31, 2014, 11:17:44 AM I remember a story from the 80s where a well known celebrity, who had been banned for drink driving, was stopped by police, breathalysed and arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving while banned. The police were about to cart him off when he suggested they look at the car.
The police had failed to notice two things, that the vehicle was American and the chauffer sitting behind the steering wheel. Title: Re: Drink driving in France Post by: Baychimp on January 31, 2014, 11:34:35 PM I remember the story of the drunk that got into his car, then phoned the police and reported that dashboard and steering wheel had been stolen. The police told him to go back to the car and wait for them, when they arrived the drunk was sitting in the back seat. Urban myth? Funny if its true.
