Title: leaky fuel tap Post by: twisted on January 17, 2014, 02:49:21 PM hi guys and girls any ideas please. i bought and fitted a new kingsportster tank and fuel tap to my trike but there seems to be a very slight fuel leak from the tap. i think it is from the thread and not the tank or tap itself. any ideas on a fix? do you locktight the thread, ptfe tape or rubber washers? cheers for any replies.

Title: Re: leaky fuel tap Post by: the coppersmith on January 17, 2014, 03:50:16 PM if its a taper thread PTFE should do, but if it is a parallel thread and the tap has a shoulder and winds all the way in, a fibre washer is the way to go.
Title: Re: leaky fuel tap Post by: Olds on January 17, 2014, 04:05:58 PM Mine have been the old style with left and right hand threads pulled together by a special nut. These I have used with a rubber/nitrile washer and never had a problem. Main thing is not to turn the tap when tightening.

Title: Re: leaky fuel tap Post by: twisted on January 25, 2014, 01:03:20 AM Cheers for the pointers. Had a good look and a few tests and it wasn't the tap leaking. It ws coming from the recessed area around where the tap goes into the tank. So drained the tank, dried it up and pushed and mold some metal putty into it. All dry and no more leaks now ;D thanks again.
