Title: Metal Shrinker/ Planisher
Post by: ByzMax on January 12, 2014, 11:10:30 AM
Thought I'd post some pictures of something I've been messing around with.

A mate built the frame and tried to get it working but not very successfully.

It's called a thumbnail shrinker. That's in reference to the die's and perhaps that if it has too long a stroke you'll shrink your own thumbnail.

Anyhow, after making various new bits for it and researching the dies shape and function.  I finally gave it a go tonight. I need to raise the speed a bit but as you can see from the item in the photo it seemed to work pretty well. Now to make stretching tools for it!

Will put up a video soon.

For now here are some more pictures.

I made another set of dies for it. Top one is made of Acetal and the bottom from an old hammer head

Then attacked the bit I shrunk the day before and had a go at a disk of Aluminium!
