Title: New Year builds? Post by: Manky Monkey on January 02, 2014, 09:56:40 AM Welcome to 2014!
Anyone got a new build planned for this year? Or a rebuild of an old one? It's my day off today, so I'm just nipping up to Colnbrook, near Heathrow, to pick up some new stainless steel Cherry Bomb exhaust silencers for my truck. It's officially off the road now for the next 3 months for a bit of a spruce up, but got to be MOT'd & back on the streets for early April for a trip to Belgium. So what are you doing in your shed over the Winter? Or are you Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: v8dodger on January 08, 2014, 11:49:13 AM iv decided its to be a trike with hub steer, however the next one is hot rod 2015 so were do i get a grp body from as i suspect a tin tub would be out of the question and id have a problem messing up a 80 something year old car.
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: Manky Monkey on January 09, 2014, 07:48:29 PM What bodyshell are you after?
Pro Laminates do model T Fords, (turtle deck & touring), model As, model Bs, Austin Devons & a few others. Good quality but pricey. http://www.pro-laminates.co.uk/fibre-glass-for-hot-rods-and-classic-cars.html Pop Browns do model Ts, as well as lots of panels for Ford Pops. Also quite expensive. http://www.popbrowns.co.uk/ Or my model T body came from Karma Kustoms, (I bought it 2nd hand). http://karma-kustoms.blogspot.co.uk/ I'd also suggest taking a wadge of cash along to the NSRA, (National Street Rod Association), swapmeet at Essex Arena, Purfleet, on the 2nd March '14 as there'll be several 2nd hand bodies/project cars there. Pro Laminates also have a stand there. Sunday 2nd March 2014 Arena Essex Raceway A1306 Arterial Road Purfleet Essex RM19 1AE http://www.arenaessex.com http://www.nsra.org.uk/index.php/j-elements-mainmenu-26/southern-swapmeet- Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: v8dodger on January 09, 2014, 08:21:09 PM thanks this is very intresting stuff, i did a goggle search a month or to came up with nothing. so very useful thanks.
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: Manky Monkey on January 09, 2014, 08:29:04 PM I'll be at the swapmeet, looking for parts for my own projects.
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: Olds on January 09, 2014, 08:57:58 PM Keep your eye on evilbay. Not only for second hand ones but there is a firm in N Wales that puts up bodies occasionally, cheaper than Pro Laminates. Cant remember their name, sorry. Also perhaps, build your own.
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: v8dodger on January 09, 2014, 10:24:41 PM i was thinking that my self building my own interpreting but not a skilled body roller / builder so not sure if this is pos for me,
monkey I'm a bit skint for now and i think its going to be well in to Feb when i may start to look in to this but based on that youtub clip on your build thread its got me thinking that most parts i should be able to find at a breakers i go to that deals in commercials, my thinking is the axles.. OK i think i need to start a new thread as have a shed lode of stuff to ask. im hooked ::)..lol Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: Manky Monkey on January 09, 2014, 10:36:38 PM Which You Toob clip mate?
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: v8dodger on January 09, 2014, 10:41:17 PM the one made from tractor parts and truck parts he has a engine that's only done 1 mill miles or kilometers in case i Miss herd lol. ratty stuff i love it don't have to fret over getting it dirty or riding in the wet..
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: Manky Monkey on January 09, 2014, 10:50:52 PM I've got a tractor steering wheel in my truck. :)
The model T roadster that Loony & I plan to build will live outside in all weathers & have drainage holes in the floor to let the rain water out! Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: spanners on January 09, 2014, 10:58:45 PM :) drainage holes in the floor to let the rain water out! and deep puddle,s in :D :D :D Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: klogan45 on January 10, 2014, 06:10:47 PM Finish the 535 that i started before the weather went to pot.
Lights, mud guards, 4 way flasher, bleed the back brakes, reflectors, handbrake. A few other odds and sods. I have no elektrikery in the garage (and not much room either) so have to use a 65 foot extension lead, so dont put the lead out if its raining. I heard that elektrikery and water dont mix. :'( Just need some dry weather. I think meself lucky that i dont live in the areas that have been flooded, so waiting a bit longer is nothing compared to what some folk have to put up with. Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: Manky Monkey on January 10, 2014, 07:31:17 PM Very true mate.
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: BikerGran on January 10, 2014, 07:32:10 PM I use a long lead to put power in my garage - the last one lasted about 10 years! Out in all weathers!
Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: klogan45 on January 10, 2014, 11:56:12 PM Hi Bobbi, not worried about how long the lead will last just dont like to take the risk of getting elektikified :o
Some risks ( bikes, trikes etc) are worth taking some not. Imknow....i'm a wimp :'( I cant leave the lead out all the time as the garage is away from the house a bit and i have to run it across a footpath at the bottom of our steps. Having to get it out and put it away in the rain is not a good idea. Maybe one day i'll have a house with a garage and proper elektrikery in it. ( and a kettle, television, sky, fridge for the milk, a dvd player...............maybe not coz i wont get anything done) Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: panthershaun on January 11, 2014, 10:29:04 AM Keep your eye on evilbay. Not only for second hand ones but there is a firm in N Wales that puts up bodies occasionally, cheaper than Pro Laminates. Cant remember their name, sorry. Also perhaps, build your own. Penguin speed shop maybe?? also hardy County hotrods, I think young mr Kapri has dealt with them. also just to add a little fuel to the fire... just been quoted $175 for a genuine 26/7 T cowl from T Haven in the states.. probably get it into the country for around £50 via Tuckett brothers... worth a thought folks.. real steel at almost a give away price ;) Title: Re: New Year builds? Post by: kapri on January 11, 2014, 04:41:20 PM Tucketts often have T bits and pieces in stock as well. Anyway , you don't want rusty old steel when you can buy shiny new non rusting grp ;)
Yup, used Hardy County and got my moneys worth ie you tend to get what you pay for and it was in my budget and a good base but ( obviously) requires a fair bit of fettling. I've still got a Model A GRP bulkhead here that could form the base of a cheap Speedster body. |
