Got this 57 GMC from up north, had been sent over by Ray in California.
454 big block, Camaro front end
Got a Camaro back axle to stick in it, getting the chrome redone.
Waiting for a big parcel to arrive with new bumpers, lower rear springs, outback under the rear fuel tank and other general bits and pieces.
It does drive nice but needs a few wiring things finished before i can use it.

Spanner... i got it as the 454 may end up in my 57 big truck instead of the straight 6 and convert this to a diesel, possibly a V8  6.2ltr

I have Chevy with a 6.2 in it and its to good to break for the engine so will look around but the 454 is ok for the mileage i expect to do in it at the moment.

57gmc i,m lookin round and considering putting a diesel in my 51 semi-unit but not shure which way to go with it .

I would drop the body on another chassis.
The Blue Chevy cost so much to sort brakes etc and its still a pain in the arse to drive.
My School bus is the same.. big truck parts are a pain and its still only a old truck.
Measure up and find something modern to drop your cab on with better engine and brakes.
I got a GMC V8 Diesel fire tender that's ideal to drop a body onto big axles/wheels but easy to get the parts for.

Wish I'd known that when I went to a super fancy law xmas dinner the other day.

No delivery of bobber yet. I'm up the unit later, so nothing better be missing or I'll be mildly annoyed.

Finally got some very large boxes with all the bits in to sort the van so can crack on now and get it out soon

Been working on the panel van to get it road worthy,
Sold into the UK as a "daily driver"  not sure what that means out in California!

Replaced the leaky fuel tank with a Aluminum tank for a 55-57 pick up but fitted the Panel van ok.
Fitted some wide Steels wheels, 3" lower springs, shackles, shocks, bushes and brakes so the back end is complete.
Got the brake lights working so i can use it but will have to fit a new loom in it.
Finished the back end off with a new rear bumper.

Seems to be a phrase that's banded about a lot. Got a half ton truck in the shop at the moment that was s'posed to be a daily, I'm pretty sure it never was. This one was out of California.

Remember there are no annual safety checks out there = if it moves = daily driver.

Had a problem a few months ago the trans fluid pumped out the dip stick hole, quick fix blast air up the vent pipe....wrong spent all Sunday cleaning the front of my house as the  fluid sprayed out every where.

Taken for a test drive and the big block pulls the truck along nicely, now to sort the steering and brakes.

If the GMC is left the manual pump drains back into the tank, anyone used a 1 way valve in the fuel line with any success?

Yeah, I've got twin tanks on my Pop, with 2 electric pumps so I can switch from one to the other. I had the same problem -main tank in the pick-up bed draining into the reserve tank under the chassis. I put an inline one way valve on each fuel line & it solved the problem.
