Title: Re: Banbury Run - pre 1931 m/cycles - Sunday 8 June 2014 Post by: Tony oily bike on June 03, 2014, 06:03:20 AM This is a very well established event, in fact, this year is it's 66th running, and is advertised as the "the largest gathering of veteran and vintage machines in the world".
The 2014 programme shows 550 machines entered, ranging from 1904 to 1930, so the youngest bike is a mere 84 years old! (and you thought your machine was getting on a bit!!) http://www.banbury-run.co.uk/ Sunday 8th June 2014 at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warks CV35 0BJ 65 acres of parkland 12 miles north of Banbury, Next to M40 J12. Here's a shot of the assemble area to give an idea of what its like. There are an option of navigation routes to take, the longest being around 60 - 70 miles (assuming you don't get lost!).
"Veterans" (pre 1915 machines) have a gentle 30+ mile route. (some of these bikes are single-speed belt-drive total-loss with stirrup brakes, so the ride can be a bit of a challenge......) "Early Vintage" (1915 - 1924) have a 50+ mile route. "Late Vintage" (1925 - 1930) have a 60+ mile route Photo of riders at the set-off area. The photo shows a pretty decent selection of engines up for grabs Title: Re: Banbury Run - pre 1931 m/cycles - Sunday 8 June 2014 Post by: Manky Monkey on June 09, 2014, 08:54:10 PM Never done this event, but always think I should after your photos & informed comments Tony. Half the time I wouldn't know what I was looking at, but it's always great to see vintage machines still being ridden & enjoyed.
