here are details.. v reg..date of registration 05 03 1980. model robin,
body type, tricycle,   taxation class tricycle. 848cc. fuel petrol, wheelplan
3-wheel, vin no ..scd1321569mo30779... engine no.. 9m/85/57646.. colour
black.. does this meen don't need sva as reg body type is tricycle. presume
just a class 3 mot,, :) :)

This is just my opinion, but you did ask.
Good news-
Engine number is right for an early 1980 reg. being made in December 1979.

Bad news-
The VIN is for a reliant chassis but you don't have a Reliant chassis and it is very obvious that it is not a Robin.

When you checked with VOSA did you tell them that the vehicle had been modified from a car, to a motorcycle type tricycle ?

was moting car and vosa were there checking on mot station,,
have vosa guys name and tel no . told him it was trike modified from car.
spoke to him for approx. 20 mins,, if you take trike to class three test centre.
they put in details from log book if you don't have last mot.. if it does not
come up on dvla data base, the mot station must enter details from log book
into there system manually,,he said some stations don't like to do this, but
they must.if it passes mot standard is deemed safe (passes). there is no requirement
to sva a veh which has been moted as trike before to go through an sva,,
vosa do not intent to call in or seize any vehicles, this is the info I have
from the horses mouth.. :)
  

Hi slug. been reading about your trike v5, theres a lot been talk on all forums about relant v5c being used on trike build.
so you have 2 choices get it msva 100% legal. or get it motd and ride it,if you get pulled then quote mister vosa and take it from there. it seems that you have already made your mind up anyway

He  may well believe it is still using a Reliant chassis and rolling gear unless you advised him otherwise.

It is a mandatory finable offence to advise DVLA of changes to chassis,vin number, or body type.

Vehicle identity is a DVLA issue NOT VOSA .

VOSA are only involved when DVLA require technical backup.

I talk to VOSA tech who gives the back up on a regular basis as part of www.the-ace.org.uk

First thing , yes that fact is true about not requiring MSVA IF it can be proved the vehicle was MOTd as a trike BEFORE MSVA came into being and also it was MOT'd IN IT'S CURRENT APPEARANCE. The onus of proof is with you.

However it would still require an identity check by DVLA and then it would receive a Q plate and have to be renamed other than Reliant / Robin.

If built after MSVA came into being  it SHOULD have been MSVAd regardless of it having MOT's before.

This is EU law that is also part of UK law  regarding new vehicles and ECWVTA ( European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval ).

You can check if notification of changes was made by downloading form V888 and sending it together with £5 fee and they will send you details of all previous owners and details of 'notifiable changes' such as engine colour body type  etc . This will also be used as part of THEIR proof of pre or post MSVA If it wasn't notified to them at the correct time.

Think that's for the best. Will add to the value, insurers will be happy and you wont run the risk of having the trike seized and destroyed.

Just as a bit of info. as far as I can ascertain. To be exempt from MSVA (apart from disabled) you have to be able to prove that the vehicle was converted/built and legally on the road prior to 8th August 2003

The Motor Cycles Etc. (Single Vehicle Approval) Regulations 2003  (SI 2003 No 1959)

Just to add to that car date is April 98 when SVA was introduced. We ( ACE) have been able to help quite a few cars caught who were built before '98 but not 100% on the registration . Bikes /trikes aren't our field of expertise
