after stripping down the trike to the frame and sending it away for shot blasting it came back like this
(http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u574/gibbo604/my%20trike/trike2006_zps6ff8c2bb.jpg) (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/gibbo604/media/my%20trike/trike2006_zps6ff8c2bb.jpg.html)

after seeing this i was wondering if it was worth getting it rewelded or just bin it , a mate came over and said he could make a jig and put it right , if not he could make a new frame , hence he welded it and gave it back .

whilst the frame was getting rewelded i pulled the engine to bits , did the usual compression test etc before the strip down and the bottom end was sound , so sent the head to get skimmed and new valves and stem seals put in
(http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u574/gibbo604/my%20trike/trike2013_zpsbff9ab65.jpg) (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/gibbo604/media/my%20trike/trike2013_zpsbff9ab65.jpg.html)

and was left with a bin full of bits to start cleaning , he put a brand new carb on so that was put away and the degreasing started

yes merv , the bloke I bought it off said his wife used it everyday , it made me feel ill ,

the rear wings were mounted and other engine parts painted , etc sump , timing chain cover etc

jumping ahead of myself here , also fitted rear bump bar , not keeping that one on its just for mr msva

then in beginning of july had an operation on my left lower leg which left me with a lizarus frame on which im still bl**dy wearing so the build was slowed down then a mate started the wiring for me so I bought some bits whilst recovering

i bought a vw trike from someone who said the used it every day to get her and her son about   when i changed the forks  i found the steering stem was from two differant bikes and tack welded together in four places and one of the tacks had missed the joint completly  i took a pic and sent it to her  she was  disturbed that she paid good money to have the front end sorted

Not surew where the pic is cos I can't see it!

I had one of those on my leg - it's the reason I still HAVE a leg!  I wanted to keep the framework to make a wine bottle holder for the trike - they would let me - but only if I paid £1000 for each ring - and there were four!

well had good news today , dvla have issued me with a VIN  number for the trike , just got a couple of things more to do like , led markers on the arches , got to purchase a alarm , get front mud guard sprayed , and tidy electrics , then book it for mvsa , also the wheels on the trike will be for sale as I would like wolfrace alloys on it {old school} I have four wheels like the ones on the trike so will split them if need be , also have a brand new mudguard that I bought and didn't like , I think its off a wide glide as it wont fit a bandit front end , haven't been able to save photos of rebuild that were stored on phone so will just get piccys of work finished and post later, could anyone tell me what vehicles have the same stud pattern as reliant so I could start looking for some alloys , thanks  ;D ;D

Title: Re: gooses trike
Post by: Olds on December 07, 2013, 04:34:28 PM
Slowly getting there then Goose.
Wheel stud pattern is the same as the classic Mini (10" & 12") MG Midget / Sprite, (13") Morris Minor(14"). 4x 4" or 4x 101.6mm.
By old school Wolfrace wheels I assume you are thinking of Super Slots. May have a problem getting the amount of positive offset you have at present. Just means the trike ends up wider and you have to remount the rear mudguards etc.

Title: Re: gooses trike
Post by: goose on December 07, 2013, 04:46:59 PM
slowly getting there on , thanks for the wheel dimensions will try and borrow one first to see if mudguards have to be moved  ;D

well a few weeks ago I got my trike back as it was stored in a friends garage , he said he would re-wire it and other bits to help get it ready for sva , well I thought bthe wiring had been done by a three year old , wires twisted together and wrapped in green tape , hes lost the brake and clutch pedals and various other bits , I did consider getting the gas axe out , after calming down thought lets start again , I purchased 11 core wire and started the re-wire , but got It done except the alternator , eventually got it started so after a year of not running it sounded nice , no bangs or rattles ,I got a set of brake pedals out of a Mercedes sprinter and started to modify them ,bought another handbrake cable and ratchet just have to fit it ..
