I liked the brand new 3 wheel Morgan with the Harley engine. I didn't realise they still made 3 wheelers. It arrived late in the day but it got lots of attention.

Bear in mind they use BIVA ( Low volume production) , or MSVA but I don't think they have a Low volume section ?, to make them legal .Another good place to steal ideas for your project.

Yeah, I was wondering about the full length exhaust, down the side of the body. Wouldn't that need heat shielding along the whole length? And wouldn't the tail pipe be too high?

Nope re heatshield, look at most Lotus 7 replicas and, my favourite point of reference to Police officers, motorbikes ! .May be a problem with C&U re exhaust height but would have to check that out.

We'd like to run the pipe down the side of the body on the T roadster thingy. So it's O.K to burn yourself on any part of it except the bit below the cockpit? Heightwise, I was thinking about the emissions & decibel tests we had to comply with for the Pop. The meters were at set heights from the ground, which would suggest minimum/maximum tailpipe height wouldn't it? 

The press was talking up that Morgan were going to be using Harley engines a few years ago, but to be a bit sadly technical  ::), they're actually S&S - but don't they look fun  :D

From section 01 BIVA manual group M1 vehicles

Position the vehicle within the authorised test area. With the sound
meter horizontal, set the microphone height so that it is at the height of
the exhaust outlet or 200mm from the ground, whichever is higher.
a.
At an angle of 45 degrees to the exhaust outlet in the direction
which gives the greatest distance between it and the vehicle
contour

b. At a distance of 500mm from the exhaust outlet.
With the vehicle at normal operating temperature, run the engine at ¾
of its ‘maximum power’ speed, and note the sound level reading
obtained.
Note 1:
Manufacturers drain holes are permitted in silencers
Note 2:
The exhaust may have several outlets up to 300mm apart
connected to the same silencer. In this instance the microphone must
face the outlet closest to the vehicle contour or highest from the
ground. In all other cases, separate measurements must be taken for
each exhaust outlet; the highest value obtained is the test value.
Note 3:
Where the engine maximum power speed is not available, the
test may be carried out at 2/3 of engine maximum design speed.

O.K, so no mention of actual pipe height then. And an exposed hot exhaust is O.K?

S&S Cycle is a motorcycle engine and parts manufacturer that was founded in 1958 by George J. Smith and Stanley Stankos in Blue Island, Illinois. The company started by selling high performance pushrods for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and today they still make parts for American V-Twin bikes. The company's current president is Stephen Iggens.

Soon after the formation of S&S, George's wife, Marjorie, bought out Stanley Stankos and Smith & Stankos became Smith & Smith. In 1969, the company moved from Blue Island to establish a new headquarters in Viola, Wisconsin. S&S still operates at this location, but opened an additional facility in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2004.
