Title: Kapri's new scoot Post by: Manky Monkey on July 18, 2013, 09:07:16 PM Not entirely sure which section this should be in!
Kev recently emailed me these photos of his top secret new project with instructions to keep it under my hat. I duly tucked it under my titfer, but he tells me it's O.K to publish them now. I'm sure he won't mind me telling you he suffers from a variety of ailments that mean at some point he's gonna need some extra mobility assistance, The man's a walking medical encyclopedia, but walking any great distance is becoming more difficult. Being Kev though & determined not to let it stop him doing what he does so well, (like so many here), he's come up with this -a custom mobility scooter themed around his old Mod Scooter. The "Lamebretta". Brilliant! I'm just posting the photos for him, so I'll let Mr Kapri fill in the details himself. More power to your little wheels mate. ;D Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: Manky Monkey on July 18, 2013, 09:07:40 PM .

Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: Olds on July 18, 2013, 10:09:39 PM That is cool. I knew you were working on one Kapri but wasn't expecting the Lambretta theme.
Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: kapri on July 19, 2013, 07:58:41 AM I was going to build a bobber themed one initially but the paintwork on this one was too good to waste so went with the LamEbretta theme.
Bit of a story attached to it all. Back in '68 I was involved in the Soul scene in Wolverhampton . I was too young to have a scooter as only 13 but lusted after one. Eventually moved down here and bought a '61 LI ( in 72 ! ) and managed to bouncei t off a wall and decided it hurt a bit too much ( I've manned up since then a bit) Anyway all the stuff on the scooter harks back to then, Catacombs on the plate is THE big Soul club way before Wigan Casino was ever thought about . The number itself OKE11 , is a tribute to OKEH , the big soul label ;-) Headset is an LI150 and the seat itself is a Snetterton race seat with a cutdown period backrest. 'Legshields' are made from towel rails with perspex that I cut down to size and repro period decals . I also got hold of some period blue 'bubble' bar covers and brake grips which are used for the modified thumb throttle. It's a bit slow up hills as it's only a shopping style 'boot' scooter and I'm about at the maximum of its weight carrying capacity ;) Think I need to look at 24volt conversion or possible wedging in an 8mph motor . Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: poprodder on July 19, 2013, 12:55:29 PM very cool kev, will it pass biva? or within 8 point rule!!!! lol
Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: spanners on July 19, 2013, 09:47:32 PM i,v got a 24v GO-GO motability scoot hardly used but without batt,s n, charger (another family member nicked em)
i was going to build the gran kids a tot rod or jeep but its got smallish wheels so its now gathering dust in the garage Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: Tony oily bike on July 23, 2013, 05:40:33 PM Made me smile :D

Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: kapri on September 24, 2013, 08:29:08 PM ...and that's with me only using the Fentanyl patches occasionally ! LOL
If I sit about I'm in pain, if I move I'm in pain so I figured out I'd rather do something constructive. There'll be plenty of time for sitting in a chair when I have no option!! Needs souping up though 4 mph is painful , looking at 48volt conversion ( found out they are 24v as standard )...8mph here I come. At clinic tomorrow to check progress on my spine issues, now moved up into neck area as well as lumbar . Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: BikerGran on September 24, 2013, 09:06:07 PM ...and that's with me only using the Fentanyl patches occasionally ! LOL My god I had to use those for a few days when I couldn't take meds internally cos I was starving for a barium enema - they nearly drove me completely nuts! I can't even remember what the effect was but I know I wrote myself a note in my diary to never EVER use them again! Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: kapri on September 25, 2013, 07:01:20 AM My sister in law is an anaesthetics nurse and I told her I used them the other day she was quite stunned . For those that don't know they are artificial morhine patches, 100 times more powerful than morphine and 10 time stronger than Heroin. I'm supposed to use them everyday but I only use them when the pain gets excruciating. Rest of the time I use Remedeine Forte and 'distraction technique' as taught by the pain clinic.
I'm on 3rd dose from the start , first 2 dose levels space me out but don't deal with the pain. Good attitude to have.Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: BikerGran on September 25, 2013, 08:07:56 PM I can't use remedeine either - it makes me totally manic, can't sleep, can't keep still at all !
Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: kapri on September 26, 2013, 08:32:14 AM Nope, I can't sleep with it but it makes me drowsy get minute at a time sleep .Great fun in hospital watching the minutes on the clock slowly ticking away overnight ...NOT!! I use voltarol everyday ,can tell within a couple of hours if I've missed a dose .make sone of my mates 'mental' gets really aggravated and punchy on them , I found that with Prednisolone , HAD to be on it for 13 years again, great fun:(

Title: Re: Kapri's new scoot Post by: BikerGran on September 26, 2013, 10:32:06 AM Great stuff Stumpy!
Been thinking about getting a scooter so I don't have to use the car every time I want something from the local shop, but I'd love to have a dog again and haven't cos I can't do the walking - so if I get a wheelchair and a couple of mutts, I'll be sorted! Kev I never knew Voltarol had that effect on some - I've been on it for years and it's the only thing that works on my arthritis (combined with paracetamol) - doesn't do my insides a lot of good but swings and roundabouts - whatever's best for carrying on living! |
