Title: reliant axle bearing Post by: terry t on July 16, 2013, 03:15:38 PM is the bearing on the half shaft a press fit or does it just slide on and held in place sandwich between the collar and hub. then when fitted to the axle the back plate hold it all on.
the old bearing has worn the shaft down so fitting new shaft post a photo later Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: Olds on July 16, 2013, 03:30:00 PM the old bearing has worn the shaft down so fitting new shaft post a photo later ???Should be a press fit. Mine required no more than a suitably sized tube and a soft faced mallet to fit. Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: terry t on July 16, 2013, 06:32:21 PM Hi stumpy
2 are new 1 is the old one from damaged shaft all bearing internal sizes are 24.98mm the 2 good shafts are 24.98 the damaged shaft is 25.mm. there dont seem to be any ware or marks on the shaft ends. all bearing are reliant 62mm o/a. got some shafts with 57 mm bearing on going to get them pressed of and check them. going to see my mate he has two of my old shafts i lent him he also has some 57mm bearing going to see it they are a tight fit ??? will let you know Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: stumpy on July 16, 2013, 07:11:35 PM 90 percent sure 57 or 62 o/d share the same size shaft size good luck
Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: terry t on July 16, 2013, 09:17:44 PM Ok I got my old shafts back from my mate and fitted it on so trike is back on the road.
as for shaft sizes well they are different the 62mm have a shaft size 25.02 and the 57 have a shaft size of 25.47mm as for the other ones 24.94 that the bearing just slide on your guest is as good as mine. they are also different diameter shaft (http://i40.tinypic.com/nbqekw.jpg) Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: fifer on July 16, 2013, 10:05:11 PM One bearing size is Metric and the other is Imperial .
. Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: terry t on July 17, 2013, 07:38:32 AM One bearing size is Metric and the other is Imperial . Hi fifer. i know the 57mm bearing are imperial. but the 5 shafts in the photo all had 62mm bearing the 2 on the left are a pair and the 2 on the right are a pair the one in the middle came off my trike you can just see where the bearing has worn into it. now could it be that the two on the left came of a reliant fox or bond bug Title: Re: reliant axle bearing Post by: Olds on July 17, 2013, 09:17:59 AM Just because they all had 62mm bearings doesn't mean they started that way.
I would imagine that the 24.94 shafts have either been reground to fit the smaller id bearing and they didn't realise they should be a press fit, or they were from a batch of undersize shafts. |
