Post by: kinkytriker on June 08, 2013, 10:54:09 AM
was merrily on my way back from a days work ;D

then it all went to s@@t when the bike sees ed, pulled clutch in and crews ed to a stop.
was able to change the gears to get it in to neutral, tried to start it up and it seemed to turn over

have not had time to look yet.

a mate said to dipp the oil, and if it smells of petrol its a hole in piston or rings.

i am busy putting my back box on trike to sell on to get cash for fixing bike.

have striped of fairing and tank to get to air box.

found loads of foamy liquid in there, does not look like it should be there  ::)

any ideas what it could be ???

it is also in a breather pipe going to the head.

went to a bike shop and they said that the gunk is very common.

so dont know what to look at next?

Fault diagnosis ain't really my strong point, but that would've been my guess too.

Well it sounds like you have no compression,
This could be one of four things,
Hole in piston.
Piston rings broken or worn.
Bent or burnt valve.
Blown head gasket.

Or it could just be tight tappet clearances.

waiting for manual to turn up so i can get head of and be able to put it back together.

hoping it will just be gasket.

manual is hear now, time to start striping down head now i know where to look for TDC marks.

marking position of timing chain - is it only a special pen you can use or any pen that will work?

May be cheaper to buy a complete engine.

years ago i stripped a moggie 1000, engine that had a real bad miss-fire and low compression on one pot ,, to discover it had a ,wooden,,piston with a bit of steel on top , :o :o :o
it had been recently purchased from a well known (locally) dodgy garage ,,

went to a motorcycle dealer, he said that i nead a new barrel, piston and rings, head gasket set.

and then he said i would nead to do both cylinders and i would have to renew all the bottom end as well,
so i would be beter of bying  a new engine, niether of which is an option i can undertake at the moment.

got a potential buyer for bike as is stands so i will go down that root.
