Anyone got any top tips for removing excessive carbon build up in engine parts?

blunt scraper ,, or sometimes good old  ,coke a, cola works  ;)

Cheers buddy, can't get a scraper in there, it's a heat riser on a VW engine!

If it's steel soak it in caustic.
Always good to remove carbon.

It's had four lots of caustic soda mix in it so far!!!!!!

If the carbon is very oily the caustic doesn't always work well. On two stroke exhausts we used to burn the oil off first with a blow torch.

Yep that's exactly what we used to do in the day.

But it you send your two stroke ex to a plating company they will soak it in hot caustic for day's,
Maybe a week,They must be clean before they will put them in the tanks.
