Title: Ariel Leader Post by: BikerGran on April 17, 2013, 09:37:11 PM Does anyone know anyone around the Haslemere area who knows anything about Ariel Leaders or Ariels in general? A friend has been given one to raise funds for a charity he works for but he knows nothing about old brit bikes and would like to get hold of someone who does!

Title: Re: Ariel Leader Post by: BikerGran on April 18, 2013, 04:08:00 PM I think he wants someone to have a look, maybe get it started, tell him what needs doing and the best way to dispose of it to make money for the charity.
It's an awful responsibility to be given something like to raise funds as you don't want to feel you've let down the giver! Title: Re: Ariel Leader Post by: morrag on April 18, 2013, 06:34:23 PM Seems like it may be a responsibility too far for someone who knows nowt about Brit. Bikes! however, its a straightforward twin cylinder 2-Stroke engine, with traditional porting, no reeds or discs, and an Amal carb. Spares for the engine are available and fairly run of the mill, however "Tinware" for the unique style of chassis is difficult to obtain. His best bet is to get someone local, as suggested, to give it a good looking at so as to speak,if you can find someone that is! then decide whether its worth the cost of a refurb. or a "just get it up and running as is". They don't seem to realise large resale prices anyway, as they never gained the popularity with a somewhat "traditional" motorcycle public of the day, that their radical design probably deserved, too early perhaps? anyway, good luck, I feel you might need it for this one,.......Morrag

I've suggested he go along to Newlands Corner and ask around, it's not far from him. Title: Re: Ariel Leader Post by: Tony oily bike on April 19, 2013, 12:12:47 PM May be worth considering the Ariel owners club
http://www.arielownersmcc.co.uk/ Newlands - usually get a few Brits up there, nearly always 4 strokes, road going Ariels up there are pretty darn rare......... Hope he has success ;) |
