Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: hunter on March 19, 2013, 10:48:39 AM Thanks Chewie, It looks like the same rods are used for both gas and tig.
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: triker_Chewie on March 19, 2013, 12:10:04 PM Yeah just go cooler when brazing on the tig
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: Olds on March 19, 2013, 02:52:01 PM Never thought about doing that. Got to get me a tig .
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: ByzMax on March 20, 2013, 11:11:44 PM Bronze welding with TIG is fine but you need Zinc free roods not the ones that you use for gas welding.
The Zinc boils off when tigging and ruins it. I bought some rods a while back and it works fine. £80 per kilo though!!! Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: hunter on March 20, 2013, 11:43:12 PM Thanks ByzMax,That's the answer i was looking for.
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: hunter on March 27, 2013, 08:43:05 PM Having problems getting rods locally,
Bryzmax do you have any codes for these rods, Any help would be appreciated. Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: ByzMax on March 29, 2013, 12:10:05 PM The ones I used are Sifsil no 968. or Sifsil No 32
Easier to buy over the net If you search sif sil for tech data as to which type to use as the ones I use may not be suiatble for what you are doing. Hope that helps. Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: hunter on March 29, 2013, 12:34:32 PM Thanks Byzmax will investigate.
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: stumpy on April 02, 2013, 07:36:47 PM ive tigged brass no problem they specifi dc for this application same as copper so keep this in mind
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: hunter on April 02, 2013, 08:17:25 PM Thanks stumpy,What tungsten would you use.
Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: stumpy on April 03, 2013, 02:31:18 PM 1.6mm white or grey ZIRCONIATED Tungsten Color Code WHITE or BROWN, are best suited for AC Tig welding applications.
Zirconiated, White, AC Welding applications. Better start up than Pure Tungsten, Balls up well and has a more stable arc than Pure Tungsten. Better current carrying capacity and high resistance to contamination during welding. Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: hunter on April 04, 2013, 07:25:19 PM OK tried this today,I have a very dark film on the weld,
If you wire brush it cleans off,It's not soot it looks like slag to the naked eye. Title: Re: Bronze welding with a tig Post by: stumpy on April 04, 2013, 07:45:23 PM probably zinc is it yellow ??
