Welcome to the forum Mark,What do you mean we don't take things seriously,
A couple of pop rivets and a bit of filler will soon fix that,And a set of wiper blades so you will see were your going.

That's a serious kick up in the back of that chassis! Have you built the rails from scratch yourself Marky?

Title: Re: 1937 chevy pick up
Post by: markyb on November 18, 2012, 11:46:49 PM
Cheers guys, yes I have made the chassis rails from scratch. I did not want the normal stepped and welded box section so I fabricated the shaped peices to give the rails a slightly better look. (I have many more pics to come I shall give a brief explaination of the pics as I go . As long as I don't put you all to sleep When you get bored let me know ???

just to  Mirror what Merv says, interested in your Lexus V8 see what that installs like and hoe it turns out. It is a route i would like to take if i were ever to do a v8. Nothing wrong with the ubiquitous Rover or yakie motors but the Lexus is a engine that will provide good HP with inbuilt reliability and economy,i think its  a good choice.

You can't beat a Yakie motor.  :D

;D ;D ;D Gime a break man, i did try i saved the lexus motor from being a texus one.  ;D ;D proof readers who needs em!  ;)

:D  When I left school the only things I was any good at were English & art. I was advised to try a career as a proof reader. In those days, the publishing world was a "closed shop" -you had to be a fully apprenticed member to get a job. So I served 4 years as a printer, hating every minute of it. By the time I'd finished the apprenticeship, the job of proof reading was being done by computer spell check. Looks like there might still be an opening for me!

I used to do proofreading at home for a local publishing company - I too was superceded by a computer!

Title: Re: 1937 chevy pick up
Post by: Manky Monkey on November 21, 2012, 03:32:29 PM
Ooh, that's nice.
Not sure it's bent is it? Looks like could be cut from flat sections & welded together?

Title: Re: 1937 chevy pick up
Post by: markyb on November 21, 2012, 07:30:06 PM
Hi guys , yes the  chassis rails are made with cut sections to create the curves. It was a fair bit of work but I have never  been keen on the cut and spliced look it's to square for my liking. Also these pics are early stages so to bring the build up to date I shall post a series of pics if thats OK????. I shall write a brief description when the pics need it .

Just a couple of pics showing the mods I had to do to the front fender .The fenders are from the chevy range but they are not for a truck and so I'm told they are very rare !!!!!.

The last pic shows quite clearly the mod needed to the lower door to clear the fender .Not only is this because of the non standard fenders but also because the hinge pivot is now much further forward.

Thank you very much , I must admit I get as much enjoyment out of seeing "garage scenes " as seeing hot rods and bikes in the flesh . I find it fasinating how we get over problems etc . There is far more to our hobby than some people realise !!!!!!!.I love looking at other people projects no matter what they are building . The " man cave " is some where to escape from the real world  :)

Lovely work Sir -looks so much cleaner & tidier than mine!
Is the picture on the wall behind the bench what you're aiming for?

Any chance of some close ups of your bear claw latch set-up, (how you connected the exterior & interior handles to it, how far down the door it sits compared to the exterior handle etc). I'm just about to do mine. I'm wondering if the interior handle connecting rod, mounted to the same latch operating arm as the exterior rod, will sort of lock it in place, so you can't open it?

Title: Re: 1937 chevy pick up
Post by: markyb on December 18, 2012, 11:06:39 PM
Hi there , thank you for the comments . The pic on the wall is an artist impression of a 37 chevy truck .My brother inlaw found it on the interweb thingy, the artist is a young canadian. The only thing is if you try to scale it the wheels would be about 33inch so really is just an" impression".It also has lost all the swage lines and the doors are pushed forward about 4 inches but still it is a guide . The pick up bed is something I had worked out before importing the truck , it is based on the "Downs" body 37 ford pickups As for the bear claw latch I haven't got any connections for the exterior handle as yet .I am designing a trick handle at the mo , having said that it will probably end up in the bin.Very much the same as a Pop I have very little room behind the door skin before the glass gets in the way .I am not sure yet what I am doing about "locking " yet .I got my bear claw latches from Car Builder Solutions and the info they give you said the "pin " is 3/8 UNC but after buying set of 3/8 UNC taps I find out when the bit arrive that it is 7/16 UNC . Very frustrating.I made a mont for the latch on the bench and the welded it in ( alot easier than trying to drill and file the door frame in situ. Please let me know if a pic would help its no problem. Many thanks for looking at the pics hopr they are interesting enough.

Title: Re: 1937 chevy pick up
Post by: Manky Monkey on December 18, 2012, 11:16:22 PM
Yup, a couple of photos of the latch would be good.
I bought mine from Pop Browns, plus a pair of mounting plates -a section of lightweight angle with the necessary holes i it. Just cut a square out of the back edge of the door & weld them in.
"Black Pop Racing" on the Rods & Sods forum posted a thread on fitting bear claws I think, but I can't find it.

I have had a quick look but I can't find it at the mo but utube had a vid of them being fitted .I can not remember if it was Hagan hinges or Rockys but if you have enough patience you WILL  find it. I will have another look .I just remembered a little tip ,when I bolted up the latch it slightly dented the door frame so I super glued 3x m8 washers to to the latch .Brill no damage .  ;)

Post by: Manky Monkey on December 20, 2012, 10:51:20 AM
Yes please matey. Alternative ideas would be good. I've got a pair of links from Pop Browns -short arms with square holes designed to fit the door handle shaft & a hole at the other end to take a rod to conect to the bear claw. I'd like to keep the internal handle too though & need some way of locking it from the inside as the exterior handles I have only have a lock on the driver's side.

Hi guys, thanks very much for the comments.I have a similar approach to Bus Boy I start with a small hammer , try to make the piece fit but if it starts to put up a fight I move up to bigger hammers or if the mood takes me I go straight for the f##k off great big hammer !!!!!!!!!!!. Here are a few more pics , they will get up to date sooner or later .Keep up the great work guys .
