Title: Re-scheduled Monkey World Visit - SUN 21/10/12 Post by: JayJay on September 20, 2012, 11:09:38 AM Re-scheduled Monkey World Visit - SUN 21/10/12
Hi All, As you know, the last visit was postponed because of our delightful summer weather. :'( Our group ticket is about to expire so we have arranged a last chance visit in order not to lose the visit completely. Now it is likely this date won't be suitable for everyone but it was a matter of finding a date that didn't clash with other events in the short time we have left. I have the ticket (as I live nearby and can be there to make sure we get in) so if you meet me at the entrance at 11 am, I will get us all in and then as usual, we can do as we please. In October, they close at 5 pm but 11 am allows those travelling from further afield to leave home at a reasonable time, while still allowing 6 hours in Monkey World. I know this date isn't going to suit everyone and apologies for that, but we just want to make sure at least some you, especially those of you who contributed towards Micky's adoption, can get to see him and have a fun day out. The ticket allows 30 people in for free so let's use it. If more than 30 want to come along then obviously those who contributed to Micky's adoption will have priority but we will cross that bridge if and when we come to it, so come on folks, get those picnics packed! ;D If you are going to attend, please add your name to the next post (in the usual fashion). If you want my mobile number in case you get lost or get held up then just PM me. The Monkey World address is: MONKEY WORLD, LONGTHORNS, WAREHAM, DORSET. I won't be able to make it I'm afraid, but if you haven't been before, it's basically a free day out -all you've got to pay is your petrol & lunch. We sponsor Micky the chimpanzee every year & get the entry ticket in return. It expires in a couple of weeks, so if we don't use it it'll just go to waste. Free entry for up to 30 people. We never manage to raise that many, but should it happen, priority would obviously go to those who've so kindly contributed to the sponsorship. It's not a club run as such -no need to arrive in a custom vehicle, (though I'm sure the Kapri clan will), just bring the kids along in the family car. Once you're through the turnstile you're free to wander off & do whatever you like & leave whenever you're ready. You don't have to stay together as a group all day. Go visit our guy Micky, (he's the grey haired one in Paddy's family group -the chimps are split up into different groups in large enclosures). Lots of other apes to see, several food areas, a huge kids play area, shop, etc. See if you can find our MMMotors paving stone, (in one of the "Walks of thanks"), engraved with the website logo. G'wan -you know you want to. Thanks JJ for getting us organised! Title: Re: Re-scheduled Monkey World Visit - SUN 21/10/12 Post by: spanners on October 21, 2012, 08:17:20 PM how many turned up ?
Title: Re: Re-scheduled Monkey World Visit - SUN 21/10/12 Post by: BikerGran on October 21, 2012, 08:33:09 PM I didn't count, there were grown up children and smaller children and so on. JJ & grandkids, Rick, Pete & Chrissie and various offspring and youngsters, me with my grandkids. Deffinitely not 30 but the ticket wasn't wasted!

Title: Re: Re-scheduled Monkey World Visit - SUN 21/10/12 Post by: BikerGran on October 22, 2012, 08:09:59 PM I borrowed one of their disabled scooters - you could have done that too and we could have had races!
Title: Re: Re-scheduled Monkey World Visit - SUN 21/10/12 Post by: JayJay on October 26, 2012, 11:53:16 AM Hi All,
Had a lovely time at Monkey World. Weather was good to us too. I think we were the last of the Mankies to leave at 4pm, when it just started to drizzle. Nice to see those that did turn up. Enjoyed chatting to BikerGran. Her grandchildren and mine seemed to hit it off and they enjoyed playing in the big play area. Hopefully the date of next year's visit will be back to normal and more Mankies will be able to come along. It will soon be adoption time again. End of this month I think. Hopefully see you there next time Stinkey. You, me and BikerGran can race on the scooters and the rest can bet on us. Didn't take many photos, just these few. Here is the Manky paver that Andy and Taz bought a couple of years ago. Looking a bit faded now. Lots of feet go over it though. I have included a reference point for those who wish to find it next time. It is in the group of pavers from where the photo was taken. It is at the beginning of the walkways so not too far before you find it. (http://i.imgur.com/qCxYu.jpg?1) (http://i.imgur.com/I1Eqr.jpg?1) I also have a paver there. It says JJ and Jinxster, the latter being the name of my trike. As it is a Q plate I could name the taxation make and model, so it was Jinxster (based on my surname) and Liberty for the model. It gives me a buzz to see it on the tax disc! I am easily pleased. :) It is just a bit further on from the MMM one and just in front of the bench in the previous picture. How's that for coincidence!
