Interesting.
For those who haven't been following this, it concerns recent European proposals to severely restrict or even completely ban the modifying or customising of vehicles, (primarily cars, rather than bikes it would seem).
It was initially feared that these proposals would become law within a matter of weeks if they weren't opposed. Though not the time to be blowing our own trumpet, I think it was actually our own Mr Digger, through this forum, who first brought this to the attention of Kev, (Kapri), of the Association of Car Enthusiasts, who've been leading the online campaign against the changes.
I've had trouble accessing the ACE website, (more to do with my own overloaded laptop than their site I think), but that latest statement seems to suggest we might have a little more time than first thought. The Parliamentary debating, ammending, re-debating, & legislating process is ridulously complicated -even the MEPs themselves can't agree on when any legislation could be implemented. One suggested date given in that statement is late 2013.
Unfortunately there's no official spokesperson for the hotrod community in this country. The historic vehicle guys have representatives, but the rodders & modifiers don't. Looks like we need to find someone while we've got time -Kev?  :)

its nice to know we are paying these idiots in Brussels/london isnt it, ? cant even decide when ,where or how,

its worth keeping an eye on this though cos they are still a dangerous set of idiots, and imo, not to be trusted, iv seen so much stuff shoved in through the back door, despite them saying it won,t be
as long as people dont think this is the end of it,
theres too much of the "it,l never happen " in the British public,,and brussels  know it, they seem to think we forget after a few months and bring stuff in anyway

Yup, we should take this as a warning shot & get ourselves informed & organised, so we're ready to deal with it when it comes.

Got to agree with you there, now's the time for the car and bike custom scenes to start working together and even for the various pressure groups to forget their differences and work for the common good before the EU legislate their reason for being out of existence.

While this is good news on the surface, does it mean that, as others have said we can ‘Put away our pitchforks’ and go home because the danger is over?

In a word. No.

The immediate threat may have receded,
but the document is still out there and it will still be presented to the EU parliament and they will still vote on it.
