Title: Trike Closed types. Post by: The North on July 20, 2012, 04:57:20 PM Trike types in their various guises vary considerably, the normal bike type forked single front wheeler to the reverse trikes to car style morganesque kits and self builds, the list is Long.
Now apart from standard reliant s bonds and the like that are closed cars/ Trikes Most others are open of open framed bike types. As anyone ever thought about building a trike that is a closed trike like the very early girder style Reliant commercials etc or even a bike forked trike incorporating a small rod style body. I cant say i have ever seen anything like this ever, may be a little off beat but i suppose most things have to start some where don't they. Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: Manky Monkey on July 20, 2012, 05:13:19 PM Well here's a few for you to be going on with. A quick browse through Google Images brought up these.
Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: Manky Monkey on July 20, 2012, 05:14:13 PM How about something a bit more radical.
Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: Manky Monkey on July 20, 2012, 05:14:56 PM Actually a quad, not a trike, but I love the styling
Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: Manky Monkey on July 20, 2012, 05:15:35 PM And one of my all-time favourites -Ed Roth's "Mail Box".
Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: morrag on July 20, 2012, 06:50:31 PM Yeah, but you have a "Postal" bias! although I really like the 'austin' logo'd trike above, Morrag
Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: morrag on July 20, 2012, 07:02:03 PM Something like this perhaps Mr. North?............
Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: ROD on July 20, 2012, 08:24:49 PM I've always fancied a full bodied trike, and like all of those.
Something like dragonslayers (?) munster coach type body is strangely appealling to me . How about a Roth druid princess type body. Apparently that was originally sketched as being pulled by 2 bikes side by side. roth got into bikes and trikes big time at one point.Hmmm,I reckon it would be easy to build a body for one,I'll just nip out to the workshop to have a measure.........................The mail box type would fit the proportions it seems.....but stretched a bit into the style of Nick Butlers 'Revenge' c-cab........!!! Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: The North on July 20, 2012, 09:46:21 PM Lots of ideas and what i was trying to get at in my post to some extent. I don't want to offend any folk that have the what is now traditional style angled bike fork three wheels LA chopper style trike that you tend to see most commonly these days, but the chopper styling glitter ball type styling is not my personal choice , each to his own of course. It is like with Hot rods my perfect hot rod style is the Peterson's Red white and blue speed record car, sort of race style but period. AANNDD i dnt know if i am explaining myself very well here. !
In a nutshell it as to have functional form it is to my tastes if it is chrome it is probably for show and probably not needed so why fit it this is my attitude. Sort of rat rod without Matt black, Matt Black is cool, but for me that kills it in my idea, The Duck egg blue/ Green seen on MMs pop thread, as the same effect for me as Black but is better in that it is less common, maybe i am a snob i don't know. ;D ;D I have no plans for a trike now or inn the future but mates have them and when ever i see any motor car or bike i am always dissecting it mentally and rebuilding it to what i would do, Please note i say mentaly. I have no time to do what i have already let alone others jobs. Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: The North on July 20, 2012, 10:32:28 PM I Had a look on google, but cant find anything close to what i am trying to explain, it is sort of like a cross between the first picture MM posted and this car here well the finished template of it any how. Interesting car this by the way ;) http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forums/showthread.php/schism-hybrid-hot-rod-tailfeather-project-67313p21.html.

No doubt the majority on here myself included are luke warm when it comes Hybrids, but fair play to them they looked at the project and it is clear to see it will ultimately be a successes. Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: nabsim on July 22, 2012, 11:31:24 AM Oil companies will have to be beaten very badly (unless they can start charging a pound a litre for water) before we get hydrogen power for the masses I think :(
Did you see the prototype GM hydrogen car a few years back on top gear? The base stayed the same but hey could. Just 'unplug' body shells to change type of vehicle. Brilliant Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: The North on July 22, 2012, 02:02:13 PM More harm done to the planet by money and the people and countries making vast sums of it, than as ever been done by consumers of fossil fuels. There is often talk about various alternative fuel types and oppressive oil companies keeping research down, this could be true i am not sure. But this much i do now things have started to change and will continue to do so for better or worse. And i think as short a time as ten years will see a lot more fuel changes in motor vehicles than the previous ten years.

I have been following this story from day 1 and it certainly seems to have validity (lets hope!)

Title: Re: Trike Closed types. Post by: The North on July 27, 2012, 08:23:11 PM As anyone ever thought about building a trike that is a closed trike like the very early girder style Reliant commercials etc. I did make reference to your style or Reliant commercial in my opening post.
