Title: Scottie's Chevy Post by: Manky Monkey on April 23, 2012, 09:39:44 PM Pinched from the National Street Rod Association forum:
If you've been following my Pop build thread hereabouts, you'll have seen mention of Scottie of www.movinghotrods.com He's the absolute superstar who transported my truck down to Southampton & back 3 times for the SVA test. For those that don't know him, Scottie & his missus, Gina, run a Pinto engined nostalgia drag car called Tiki Munki, featured about 6 months ago on the cover & centrespread of Custom Car magazine. He & my brother Brock are currently building a Rover engined Nash Metropolitan gasser. Scottie's other ride is a '54 Chevy sedan, used as a push car for the dragster, as well as for towing their caravan to race meets. Loony's due to re-spray this later this year. -yeah, that's Scottie's arse. Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: panthershaun on April 23, 2012, 09:43:20 PM nice.... pictures of Nash gasser please... :-*
Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: Manky Monkey on April 23, 2012, 09:49:07 PM Not entirely sure I'm supposed to mention that one -it's a not so secret project. No piccies yet.
With the ever spiralling cost of fuel, Scottie took the bold step of replacing the small block Chevy motor with a 2.7 litre Nissan auto diesel with overdrive & electronic kick down from a taxi cab. He reports it'll cruise happily at about 55 -60mph. Some will no doubt scream Sacrilege! -but it means he & Gina can afford to use it as their daily driver & continue to enjoy it -which is what it's all about isn't it. Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: Manky Monkey on April 23, 2012, 09:53:27 PM Their other motor. In this pic Scottie's at the wheel of Tiki with Gina pushing, but it's usually the other way around. Gina's the more level headed driver in a sport where consistancy's important, but still manages some pretty wild launches from the startline.
Loony's due to re-spray the Munki soon too. Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: panthershaun on April 24, 2012, 09:51:47 PM been seriously thinking about a turbo diesel in the Pop ;)

Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: Archie on April 25, 2012, 06:20:27 PM Box goes on the side so would probably have to rotate the lump 90 degrees, but if you found an engine from and audi a4 or passat they are longitudally mounted so should be easy to bolt onto something.

Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: Tony oily bike on April 27, 2012, 06:21:21 PM Saw Tiki Munki at Shakespear's Nostalgia Drags last year, and said hello to Gina as she was in the driving seat, so guess Scottie was in the push-mobile. Said hello to Brock there too.
Tiki looked really tidy (and fun). There's a bit of trend to fit turbo diesels into some vans, and tin-top rods, as performance in daily traffic is no problem, and the bank balance has a chance of coping on the longer journeys. Seems a good idea. The chevy conversion reminds me of the old yank iron in Cuba with their various conversions. Title: Re: Scottie's Chevy Post by: Manky Monkey on April 27, 2012, 07:38:04 PM That particular Chevy shape always reminds me of Cuban cars too.
Loony's due to do some welding & paintwork on the bodyshell of Tiki Munki soon.
