Post by: thebigdogsix on March 19, 2012, 08:23:48 PM yes
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 08:26:35 PM cool. how much does that filter stick out from the carb?
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 08:29:24 PM that carb looks a bit differant from mine
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: thebigdogsix on March 19, 2012, 08:32:47 PM give or take a few mm 60mm
its a standard carb with the water jacket cut off the manifold and carb turned 180 deg Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 08:43:08 PM thank anyway mate but was gonna keep my set up and just fit a filter
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 19, 2012, 08:43:59 PM pan cake air filter, accuspark are selling the on flea bay for hs2 carbs about £7.50 ;)
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 08:51:57 PM nice but i take it i will need to mod my carb to make it fit
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 19, 2012, 09:01:11 PM have you got the su carb?? if so it will be hs2 and the filter will fit. if youve got limeted space and the carb still faces inward toward the engine you could go for a 32mm cone filter, but to be honest if the carb hasnt been rotated 180 degrees stick with the stock as anything other than stock would suck all warm air off the engine and preformace would drop considerably
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 09:09:31 PM Iv got a cone filter on at the mo. it sits above my rocker box
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 19, 2012, 09:17:18 PM yeah i ditch it personally or rotate the heated manifold. with only 40hp you want them all ;) is it a trike or car??
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 09:42:00 PM It's a trike mate
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 19, 2012, 09:47:15 PM rotate the heated manifold its a five minuite job then you can use either pancake or cone and suck lovley clean cold air ;)
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 19, 2012, 09:58:22 PM Sounds good mate but im a numbnuts with reliant lumps as this is the 1st one iv had soooooo how do I rotate it
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: Manky Monkey on March 19, 2012, 10:05:41 PM It mounts on 2 studs. Take it off, turn it round, bolt it back on. Easy. :)
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 19, 2012, 11:00:58 PM as andy said. and theres no need run the heated manifold so redirect the pipe work if you want it to look tidier, first water pump spout to thermostat housing 2nd water pump spout to back of of the cylinder head. 8)
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 20, 2012, 07:29:20 AM as u can see i dont have a lot of room to play with
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 20, 2012, 09:16:50 AM if it fits that way it will fit rotated ;)
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: skates on March 20, 2012, 11:22:17 AM Naa. The frame slopes down. Not enough room
Title: Re: reliant air filter. Post by: one arm bandit on March 20, 2012, 11:37:08 AM im with you, alot of use that build custom frames build around the engine and mount the tank fairly close to the rocker cover to get a good clean flowing look, this then means in some cases that the carb wont fit on the heated manifold as it sits to close to the tank. so we then make a costom carb to manifold adaptor, i only did mine yestarday(can post pics the camras on the blink) but i basically drew around the two gaskets that mount either side of the heated manifold cut them out in mild steel. then used a 90degree stainless bend cut it to fit how i needed ,welded the plates on each end. bobs your uncle, its the cheepest and simpleist way. for the plates is better to use stainless aswell but im heat spraying mine black so mild will do the job as the fuel flows through the stainless bend? hope this helps.
