This is how i got it mainly cosmetic but a few jobs to do like new brushes in the starter motor and then wiring up. It was on the road as a trike in 2001 but it didn't have the body on it. So now the fun starts lol.

love the look.
Not sure if there is anything out on the market, but would look great if you could change the lights for hanging lanterns. ;)

Replica carriage lamps, as sold in domestic lighting shops & fitted outside the front doors of houses. Convert them to auto bulbs -job done.

How about making a new Petrol Tank for it, I'm thinking Coffin shaped.

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: dragonwarrior on March 19, 2012, 11:47:33 AM
the tank is hidden at the back on the front its a dummy and hides the electrics but i am liking the idea of changing it to a coffin shaped dummy tank and the better half likes that idea too. thanks for that zx7, and thanks MM for the lamps idea will look into it

Post by: RODeo on March 19, 2012, 05:36:04 PM
You could make some brass (or aly?) lamps that look about right, more like carriage lamps than hanging lamps, then incorporate the existing lenses into them....Instead of coffin for the rear(always think they look a bit too ghoulish) how about making some wrought iron twisty bits to replace the luggage area rails?

I digress slightly , but as its in the right theme, i thought i would just issue caution about costumes.

In 1961, 87-year-old Harry Meadows, a resident at the Haslemere home for the elderly in Great Yarmouth, England, achieved late-in-life notoriety when he accidentally killed another 3 residents of his care home by dressing up as the grim reaper and peering through the residents' lounge window whilst holding a scythe.

Any more progress Dragonwarrior?
nope not at the moment, just got hold of a zenith stromberg carb and a family member has a coffin shaped dummy tank to hide my electrics. taking the chassis down to bare metal then repainting it. i need to get cracking with it as i want to use it for the butwhy rally in September.

I now have in my possesion a zenith stromberg 125cd carb. the dilema i am in is how to mount it as it won't fit straight on to the manifold it seems to me to need a 90 degree adaptor. would this be something i could make easily or am i gonna need someone to make it??

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: ROD on April 08, 2012, 07:12:21 PM
An adaptor shouldnt be difficult...a piece of pipe(90 degrees?) and 2 x endplates.

thinking about it now it has to be more than 90 degrees is there any design software out there does anyone know of.

some 10mm alloy, hole in the middle for inlet, then studs(or threaded holes) on each side of the alloy to match the carb and the manifold holes
thin gasket each side, all done,

like a spacer with studs/bolts

Digger..I could be wrong,but..I think the carb has to sit as it is in the pic, therefore it needs an adaptor to fit it to the angled outlet of the su carb?

yes your right Rod it has to sit how it is in the pic and that is why i asked on here

So doesn't it just need a manifold making that comes straight out from the block?

So its a bit of tube with 90 deg bend and 2 end pieces, one end to fit the Reliant, other end fits the carb. I suggest you look at Merlin motorsports for a bit of preformed bend, then make some plates up yourself for the flanges.
An idea...Im not sure what angle the Reliant carb sits at,but could you join 2 x Reliant inlets end to end to give you 90 deg?

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: one arm bandit on April 09, 2012, 07:28:00 PM
i think its 30deg rod su carbs only work from 30 to 90 degrees, to do a cheepie you dont need a 90bend just get a staight 32mm tube 17/18 awg will be sound then just chop yhe ends off at 45degree weld to the 2 plates you made  then youl hava carb that sticks out the wrongright way at the cost of £5/£10,  i cant go the factory this week as daughters off school. but if you stuck next week i could knock you somthing up. ive made one for mine but i want to stick it out around 4miles now to co-inside with the new wide bars ive made. so ile be making another ;)

Post by: nabsim on April 09, 2012, 07:42:09 PM
The pic of that carb shows a side entry for manifold doean't it? If it is it just needs a straight manifold, or am I missing something again? :)

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: steven brock on April 09, 2012, 07:48:41 PM
I have two stainless flanges left from an earlier development but designed to extend the original inlet manifold out, so the two plates match the inlet manifold left and right, anyone want them they going cheap :) you would need two bits of 25 mm pipe 1.5 wall and two plates to match the head to finish

the carb that came with the trike was a zenith and in pieces so i went looking around and found the zenith stromberg 125CD which is a su replacement. so that is what i went for.

The Zenith down drafts were used on the earlier, 750cc engines weren't they? As far as I know, all the 850s used SUs.

I thought that Andy but sure I have seen somewhere that the 850 could come with the Zenith as well depending what they had when it was being built.

hi d-w. if you look on the right hand side at the back of your engine. if you were sitting on it. near the gearbox. just below the head you will see some letters and numbers some thing like  4h/85/10538  the 85 denotes its and 850cc some where on here it say what the others are for

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: zakboy on April 11, 2012, 02:15:40 PM
A single 8 in the second part of the number will confirm its 750 and as terry pointed out 85 in the second part of the number is the 850 the 700cc is confirmed by c70 at the end of the number

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: dragonwarrior on April 11, 2012, 03:20:04 PM
it is a 750cc as it states on the logbook and also has the 8 its own on the engine

My brother in law turned up yesturday and kicked me into gear to get something done. In all honesty i think that is what i needed ,just removing the mess of wires opened up a whole new lot of ideas.
One question will a 850 gasket set fit the 750 engine aswell?

Coo, that's properly in pieces isn't it.
i had to do something to get to it to strip it ready for painting. Was just gonna take the engine and box out but the brother in law opened the engine and now i am glad he  did as the big end bearings are shot so need replacing. i am getting there slowly and hopefully it will be done for next rally season. got to get some low profile tyres on my 15 inch wheels as i need more clearance on the frame than with standard tyres. I am glad i don't need to replace the liners and pistons that is a big relief

Very Gothic! I'd have to lower it & fit some purple drapes, brass carriage lamps, cobweb shaped gussets in the corners of frame rails etc & huge rubber on the back.  ;D

have you been speaking to her indoors as most of what you are saying she has planned for it ganna have to look on eilbay for a metal bender from  what SWMBO has just said

I'd cover the roof in black vinyl too & add some chrome side trim to it.
Very Munsterish!

suspension brackets moved

Post by: dragonwarrior on February 02, 2013, 11:59:25 AM
trike has been stripped. the carrage was attached wrong so it made the whole thing look like it was leaning to one side. Moved the brackets for the shocks so it now sits nicely. making new seats for it and stripping the paint ready for the frame being painted purple. the carrage is being painted black wit a purple pearl lacquer so it looks purple when the sun hits it

Is the axle welded to the frame?

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: dragonwarrior on February 02, 2013, 01:16:25 PM
the axle is welded to the swingarm and the shock brackets are welded to the axle and the frame so the shocks join the two at the rear

Was wondering where you'd got to with this after seeing a Munsteresque body on a trike pic the other day. Keep up the good work mate.

headstock has had to be removed half way through repositioning it as it was 2 inches to the right once done it will be central

Glad to see that you are still hammering away. Also nice to see more panel beaten sections (never been a fan of tread plate). It takes time but the end result is worth it. The pierced floor sections are a great idea. :)

kind of lost intrest in the trike as it just seemed to be one thing after another going wrong. so i walked away from it. after the last thing that was found being the headstock being well of center and cutting it off to reposition it i lost all hope in the project. Now is where it turns around i have just aquired a bmw k100rs frame and engine which i can use the back as a bolt on conversion so now its gonna be game on.

When I read your last post I assumed .2" (5mm). I take it you really did mean 2"  :o  No wonder you lost interest.
I know starting again can be difficult, but a new frame sounds the better way to go and should mean less hassle in the long run.
Good luck with the new build DW

this route changes the whole trike from a custom  frame with swingarm to a bolt on conversion. just a bit confussed at what to do when it is complete as it used to be a dvla inspection at the local office. from what i understand the local offices have now gone so does that mean msva??????

Glad to hear this one's been re-born mate. I always wonder what's happened to builds when they disappear from here. Good luck!

sadly alot of things where found to be wrong with the trike after buying it. Also my health has got bad Dr's think i have fibromyalgia, but thanks to a very good old friend i can get this build done and on the road. Only think that will be differant is the front half still having the carriage on the back and still keeping with the original theme.

just been on the phone to vosa and they now do the dvla inspection so i am a happy bunny. getting excited at the prospect of finally being able to complete the trike and have it on the road.

Keep plugging away at it DW! It will come right in the end.
If its previously been msva'd, doesnt changing parts of the frame mean re doing the msva? If it hasnt been msva'd then will it need one after the changes?
Is the munster body going back?

Title: Re: dragonwarriors trike project
Post by: dragonwarrior on May 17, 2014, 05:25:58 PM
it was made before msva and it is gonna be a bolt on conversion using the back of the trike i bought and a BMW k100 rs so it only needs a dvla inspection to change the BMW into trike class as it can be put back to bike at any time. and it will have the carrage back on.
