Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: cunningplan on November 27, 2011, 09:30:09 AM Been using one for a few years now, I know you don't get sports channels but as they normally only show
Depending where you are depends how may channels you have, we are lucky to be able to pick up the main mast in Cardiff and gets loads and have always plenty to watch. Would I buy SKY???? not on your life, cant see the point. (But everyones got diffrent tastes) All new telly's have got it built in these days. Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: nabsim on November 27, 2011, 10:09:38 AM Unfortunately where we live if we dont have SKY we are limited to 4 channels. If we got Freeview and added a top noth aerial we could then get a few extra kiddies channels but thats it.
A while ago we cancelled SKY and got the SKY Freesat card (was £20 for 3 years). At the time this didn't give us two channels we watched a lot though so ended up signing back up again. I keep looking at all the things available but at the moment SKY is the only option for us (broadaband not quick enough and no cable here) I do know people with FreeView though and they seem to go back and forth between that and SKY. Suppose it depends what you want to watch and where you are? Sick of paying SKY so much though Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: Tony oily bike on November 27, 2011, 10:52:14 AM Living darn sarf, fairly near Sir Manky, I've got freeview (no sky).
The Radio Times has a double page that shows the freeview channels, and I manage to get them all. Seems fine to me, but do miss some of the motorsport that Eurosport has. Just near in mind you may need a new aerial. (not to be mistaken with the 3 wheeler or washing powder sort of Ariel ! :D) Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: RODeo on November 27, 2011, 06:15:00 PM Thanks guys. Just been having a chat with a friend who lives local. He has a freeview box ,but has probs with the signal. From the list of channels he told me he has, it looks like I have the same on my TV anyway.Sports channels dont interest me ,so Im not missing anything there then!
Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: Cabman77 on November 27, 2011, 08:27:33 PM we`re sat exactly the same distance from three seperate transmitters!!!!! on normal telly we can`t get channel 5. On freeview we get three of every channel but lose them all at some point or other as the weather changes. They tell us that things will improve when they turn of the analogue signal because the digital signal will be boosted. We got a freesat satellite dish and you don`t get all the freeview channels!!! Go figure that one, but you do get sky one and sky news and Aljezera Kids!!!! ??? ??? ??? ???
Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: BikerGran on November 27, 2011, 10:17:00 PM We have a Freeview Plus box - we get all the Freeview channels plus we can record one channel and watch another - in fact we can record 2 channels if we watch the third one on terrestrial. We think it's great, we'd never sign up for Sky, my daughter has it and she often says they can't find anything to watch. Same here but at least we're not paying for the privilege!
You can check the coverage in your area by going to http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability (http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability) Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: RODeo on November 29, 2011, 02:25:56 PM Thanks for the info guys. BG I'll go look at that site.
Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: nabsim on November 30, 2011, 01:25:47 PM I haven't checked for a few months but last time I did then SKY Freesat gave the most channels. If anyone still has their dish and receiver it is worth having a look although it is £20 for a card lasting 3 years so not strictly free. Cheaper than a new aerial though/
I think in the end you have to go with what gives the channels you want to watch and what you are willing/can afford. Soddin annoys me we have little choice where I am but I don't intend moving any time so. I likes being a hermit :) Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: lunatic on December 02, 2011, 11:08:16 AM 'Ere Rod, ive got a freeview box that you can have for the price of posting. At least if you cant get a signal you havent lost anything!
Title: Re: freeview boxes Post by: RODeo on December 03, 2011, 11:39:04 AM Thats a generous offer, thanks Lunatic, but I think my old sky set up is giving more or less the same stuff.
