Post by: Tony oily bike on November 24, 2011, 09:04:11 PM
Freddie Mercury (singer and songwriter with Queen (for our younger Monkeys)) died Nov 24th 1991.

For those of a certain age, 20 years seems to have flown by................

The youtube video has had over 25,000,000 hits!

Some of queens early stuff was really good. I still have their first LP with seven seas of rye on it.

Seven seas of Rye was my favourite Queen track for years.

Can everyone remember where they were when they heard the news?

Seven seas of Rye is my favourite too. I saw Queen when they were a support act at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. They stole the show. Everyone was blown away by Freddie, not just his voice but his look and his oh so camp moves. He was a one off.

When he died, I was actually in London for a conference but I had taken the family with me (my daughter was nearly 8 and my son was just 6). While we were sightseeing, the news came through and we were very close to where he either lived or somewhere he went regularly because crowds had gathered to pay their respects.

Another reason I remember that visit to London is because when we were going down a very steep escalator to the tube, my daughter tripped and fell forwards and the only part of her I could catch hold of was her long hair. I caught her but I was shaking like a leaf for ages, thinking about what would have happened if I hadn't have caught her.

Memories! And 20 years - hard to believe.
