Title: argon Post by: mouse on July 31, 2006, 01:33:38 PM can i use 100% argon for mig welding mild steel ?
thanks in advance Title: Re: argon Post by: Manky Monkey on July 31, 2006, 02:25:55 PM Yes -as far as I know.
I use 5% Argonshield mix which gives nice clean results with MIG. 100% Argon is usually used with TIG or stainless MIG welding & is far more expensive. A bit of a waste for normal mild steel MIG, unless you've been given a free bottle as I was recently -I passed it on to Steve who's TIG welding his drag car chassis with it. I know several people who MIG weld with straight CO2 as used by pubs etc though I've never tried it myself.
