My son asked me to replace the rear wheel bearings on his Renault Clio. No problem says I.
Big mistake.Due to it being designed by a ####### idiot the bearing is a pair of taper roller bearings in a single outer race, pressed into the hub/drum where you can't press the outer race out again and being a shallow taper bearing, pressing on the inner race only tries to wedge the bearing tighter against the bore. A couple of calls and was informed that I would need at least a 10 ton press, even then there's a good chance of destroying the hub
So, I removed the inner races, cleaned out the grease and with the old arc welder and a 3.2 rod laid a really thick weld all the way around the centre of the race. After allowing the weld to cool, the outer race nearly fell out requiring only a few light taps from a small hammer.
The best bit of all though was the look on my sons face as I was setting up the welder
