Dec 24th 2014 - Can't find anything definitive about when the 2015 event is on........ ACU website doesn't show it, searched the web some too but drew a blank............... mmmmmmmmm will keep an eye out. The event is usually on the last Sunday of January, so the weather can vary from frosty through to sunny with whatever else the season wants to through at the competitors and spectators. Here's a link to the 2012 event to give an idea of what it’s about http://www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=10384.0

An icy morning greeted the riders for the annual Talmag Trophy Trial, but it soone warmed up to a balmy 8 degrees no less!
The bikes are all pre '65, four-strokes of European manufacture (the vast majority being British), ranging from 125cc to around 500cc. Although most riders are from the UK, the event does draw entrants from France, Germany and Belgium. Rider age range, at a guess,, would be 20's -70's, poss even 80's.
The bikes vary from girder-forked rigids (ie no rear suspension) through to tele-forks with swing-arm rear suspension. Most machines are single cylinder, but there are fair few Triumph twins, and a Douglas with opposing 'boxer' cylinders (like the air cooled BMWs).

The camera doesn't do this justice as the gradient is so steep its difficult to climb without loosing footing.
The chap in the high-viz is the section observer, and he scores each rider.
A trial is divided into a number of sections, and each rider tackles each section through a pre-fined set of markers, the idea being not to put your feet down, stop, go off course etc. Penalty points are awarded for each infringement, and the rider with the least points at the end of the event come out top. There are classes for bike size, suspension variants, and sometimes, as in this event, a class for the over 65 year olds.
