Is it simply a case of swapping stems over from the original, to the donor triple tree's or is it more complex than that? All info, as always, will be gratefully received. You don't normally change the stem from one triple tree to another.
There is a site that lists bikes and the bearing sizes. As long as the stem on the yokes you want to use is about the same length or longer than the stock one, by choosing the correct bearings you should be fine. You do have to take into account differences in yoke offset though. Sports bikes have very little offset while cruisers tend to have a lot. Title: Re: Changing front ends Post by: Stix on June 22, 2016, 09:43:37 AM If you are just changing the legs just get a pair of the same diameter and bung em in, you might need the wheel and brake calliper as well, but if you want to change the yokes you will need to ensure that the centre stem is long enough as the one on yours looks quite long,and make sure the lock stops will work as some times they can limit the turning circle on the bike.

Stix, That may have to be the plan, but we'll see. I may be being thick here (which would come as no surprise) but surely if the stem was changed over, then the length would be correct, and the bearings could just go over on the swap as well? But it is often custommade stem needed. Take a look at thumpertalk or at adventurerider.com there is a lot of info on different swaps of forks.

You can often find triple trees/forks from different version of the same bike can be very different. I have Z750 ltd forks in Z650 yokes to get the wheel pushed out forwards all mounted in what I think is a Z1000 headstock.
