Wasn't there a thread on here about how to make a stove out of a gas cylinder? Been searching but can't find it.

Would it be Chris Irelands workshop heater There was a guy who made wood burning stoves out of dumpy propane tanks and bit of old VWs. Charged an absolute fortune for them. Plenty of info on the web including some vids.

Getting older but no wiser! Just using bigger hammers. The answer to most problems, fire and lots of it.

Yep,so have I. If its for a patio, you havent got to be as perfect with how its built ,but for inside it should have a proper door etc. They throw out amazing amounts of heat! When we had one of ours cranked up on the patio, you couldnt get within 6 feet of it if youre wearing shorts cos Itll sunburn your legs!

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL IF YOU INTEND MAKING ONE OF THESE.....some dubious characters near me tried to make one and promptly blew their shed to bits, luckily not too much damage to themselves. Suggest leaving the valve open for couple weeks to ventilate then use drill/jigsaw to cut out hole keeping well watered......DO NOT CUT WITH DISC CUTTER, PLASMA CUTTER OR GAS AXE!!!!!!!!!!

GAS VALVE OUT AND LEFT UPSIDE DOWN OUTSIDE,,WELL VENTILATED,, IN A PLACE OF SAFTEY FOR A FEW WEEKS,,, THEN FILL WITH WATER,, THEN DRILL THE CORNERS OF YOURE FIRST DOOR HOLE WITH CORDLESS DRILL THE GO IN VERY CAREFULLY WITH A THIN CUTTING DISC OR EVEN A HACKSAW BLADE (yes it will be slow progress at first ) AFTER ALL YOU ONLY GET ONE HEAD IN YOURE LIFETIME ,,,AND ITS BEST KEPT ON YOURE OWN NECK N, SHOULDERS YEP SAFTEY FIRST ,,,,

They're usually made of copper aren't they? Wouldn't it just melt?

takes a lot to melt copper. most of the storage units here are enammelled steel. they rust out after a decade or so and make great fire bins
