The wife's 1600cc 2002 Volvo tax is due at the end of this month and once again I should have done it as soon as the reminder hit the mat. . Checking online I see that it's gone up again from the £240 on the reminder to £250. If it had been registered before 2001 it would be £255, yet if it was registered last year the tax would be £140 no matter what the engine size or how high the CO2 figure (zero emission etc excepted) Seems that this £140 hasn't gone up. Folk who can't afford to buy a one year old car are being punished by ever increasing tax. .

That same car if registered now would cost £165 first year then £140 each subsequent year. The vehicle tax system, sorry systems, as we have four different taxation systems dependant on year of registration is ludicrous.

As from 2018 new diesel cars will be bumped up one tax band on the first year VED unless they "meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards when tested on the RDE new real-world emissions regime." None yet do. The Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 Shadowline GT is under the £40,000 limit, so after the first year, the annual VED is £140 a year. That's £110 cheaper than our little 1.6 Volvo !!! Think I need a Mustang.

our vans at work meet euro6, but Ad Blue is a pain as we do over 1000miles a week and thats how long its lasting. some cars now have to have ad blue to meet emissions. merc fitter said they don't bother doing emissions test with these as nothing shows. when running in warehouse there is no diesel smell at all, seemed real odd at first.

Anything over the £40000 limit has a £310 per year surcharge on top of the std VED for the first five years. A lot of high end vehicles have models that just scrape in under the £40,000 Would Sir like the expensive wheels, top of the range ICE etc. fitted before or after the vehicle has been registered ?
