Hi. Just recently bought a Suzuki sv 650 2000 model. The bike is a bit scruffy, but is in complete standard trim with only 14.5k miles on it. My problem is ....when it starts up from cold, the engine is really nice and quiet. Clutch and gearbox is nice and smooth. But once it starts to get up to its running temperature it gets a little rattly. I have given the bike an oil and filter change. I,ve looked on youtube and camchains rattle as soon as they start up when cold. A guy at work reckons it could be the cam followers.....any ideas fellow monkeys ?

What grade oil are you using? I have an '05 SV and one of my sons has a 2000 SV, both quiet enough, but I suppose it depends what you call quiet! however this motor does not appear to be susceptible to high cam wear, we run both on Semi-Synthetic oil..Morrag

Mines a 2000 model as well , and runs on semi synthetic as well. The rattling is not really loud.....just seems odd that it only does it when its hot. When its cold starting ,it sounds silky smooth, especially with the stock exhaust on.

Bikergran.....thanks for that link to the svrider group. I know I am repeating myself here, but everything they say is right. Keep it revving between 3k and 5k and the engine is as sweet as a nut, silky smooth and pulls well. I prefer this bike more than my Honda hornet, its so easy to ride with the torque. It seems that little bit of noise from the cam is quite common. Happy days.
