Title: XS 650 gear issue
Post by: thebigdogsix on February 21, 2013, 06:55:04 PM
Ok had a quick blast around on the bike as we have been doing a hydraulic clutch conversion and when the bike is under power it seems to jump out of gear. i only had it in first so i dont know if it jumps out of any other gear at present. So could anyone tell me of a common fault or what i should start looking at please   :)

I've had 4 or 5 XS650s in the past, but don't remember that particular problem.
Tony Oily Bike would be the man to ask -he races one.

Ahem..... not quite 'races'  ::) , but have used mine in competition twice............

Sorry, not sure of the answer, but could be worn dogs.

Would suggest a trawl through the following forums may help

It happens a lot on the xj/xs 1100 and yep it's the dogs normaly 2nd gear though
It's a rebuild off the gears to fix
On the 1100 you go through the sump to do it it's very easy the hardest part is the getting the new gears to put in

The XS750s had a reputation for jumping out of 2nd, but again, I never had a problem with any of the ones I owned.

I never had a problem with my xs750 but had no 1st gear on my xs11 for years. Long after it had gone I heard that Yamaha started fitting a washer somewhere to solve the 1st gear problem I had. None of this is any use to you though sorry BD6
