Manky Monkey Motors

Those who've been here for a while will know that as a group, we sponsor a chimpanzee at Monkey World, the reknowned ape rescue centre down in Dorset. We've been doing our bit for 3 or 4 years now, sponsoring Micky. In return we get a photo, an adoption certificate, a quarterly newsletter & a group entry ticket which gives free entry to the park for up to 30 people. That's a once only thing -one visit per year as a group, so we try & organise a run down there at the end of April, before the rally/show season begins. The last Sunday in April, 2011 -put it in your diaries guys. Taz & I have also bought a paving slab engraved with the website logo, which is now part of a "Walk of Thanks" within the park.
It may have started out as a bit of a joke, picking a cause to back simply because it's monkey related, but we've raised nearly a thousand quid since we began & helping endangered species definitely ain't a joke. We're very proud of you guys.

So. To qualify for group adoption, we have to raise a minimum of £120 & this year's sponsorship expires on the 16th October, which gives us about 3 weeks.
As always, we don't want anyone to feel pressurised into taking part. It's an entirely voluntary thing & all we can offer in return for your money is a day out at MonkeyWorld for you & maybe your kids, depending how many people are free to go on the day.
If you'd like to make a contribution, we'll ask the same as previous years -£10 per person, but I'll say it again, please don't feel you have to get involved. Money's tight for everyone at the moment.
We'll start the list with 10 quid each from Taz & me. Anyone else want to step forward?

Right chaps, I've just phoned MonkeyWorld & renewed our adoption of Micky the chimpanzee.
The minimum donation for group adoptions is £120 per year.
This year we've raised £220, which, in these financially challenged times, is pretty damn impressive I think, especially as many of you only know each other as names on a computer screen. The cameraderie of this little forum never fails to amaze me.
I confirmed with them that we'll receive the usual free entry ticket for up to 30 people, so we'll be organising, (organising -ha, ha, ha!), our annual trip down to visit Micky & the rest of the apes on the last Sunday in April, 2011. As always, should we manage more than 30 people for the journey down to Dorset, priority for free entry will be given to those who've donated, but all are more than welcome to join us -bring the kids & make a proper day of it.
The ladies at the MonkeyWorld adoption centre asked me to pass on their thanks to every one of you.
You guys really are the nicest bunch of Monkeys we've never met. Thank you to everyone who sent in a donation.
We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in April.  :-*

I guess we need to start another list don't we. If you'd like to come along with us, the usual routine is for anyone from our neck of the woods, (London ish), to run down together, then meet up with the rest at Blandford Forum, to travel the last few miles together. Obviously, to use the free entry ticket, we all need to pass through the gate together, but once inside you're free to do whatever you like -wander round in a group or go off & explore on your own. MonkeyWorld's not a theme park, it's an ape rescue centre, but there's still plenty there to do to keep the kids happy & it's expanding all the time, (there's a huge adventure playground there now for example), so bring 'em along. We now have an engraved paving slab with the website logo on it in the "Walk of Thanks" -something for the kids to look for.
This is just a free day out that we get because we sponsor a chimpanzee. All it'll cost you is your petrol, (there are restaurants onsite, but you can take your own picnic if you'd rather). We don't expect you to turn up on a show winning trike or in your hotrod, (just as well cos Taz & I have been in our "daily" car every year so far). It's not a run as such, just a family day. An informal forum get-together. We're more interested in seeing you than in what you're driving or riding.
As I said, we have a free entry ticket for up to 30 people, so if we gather more than that, the ones who donated will get entry first & we'll have to sort something for the others on the day, (so far, we've averaged about 20 each year).
Oh, the date for this year's trip is Sunday the 24th of April 2011 by the way.

Allthough we sponsor Micky the Chimpanzee, they don't actually give him the cash! The donation helps support the ape rescue centre in general, so all the animals benefit. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to accept a personal donation.

Hi guys.
Looks like it'll be a very low key run this year. We always have trouble motivating people to join us for this trip, which is a shame as it's primarily to pay you lot back for sponsoring Mickey the chimpanee. I know it's a bank holiday weekend & a lot of peeps have other plans, but there's still time to join us if you fancy a day out.
Looks like Taz is working this time, (she's been working 7 days a week for the last few months now & it doesn't look like that'll change any time soon). So it's just me on me own in me little Ford Fiesta travelling down from this neck o' the woods.
Would it be easier to just meet in the carpark of MonkeyWorld? We have a group entry ticket, giving us free entry for up to 30 people, but obviously we all need to pass through the gate at the same time. Once we're inside the park, you're free to do your own thing & leave whenever you're ready. Past experience shows some people will wizz around the whole thing in an hour & disappear while others, especially those with kids, like to make a day of it & stay all day.
This isn't really an organised run, just a free day out & a chance to meet up with a few forum members.

Was good to put a few faces to names today...was a nice ride down on the Trike & a good stroll about in monkey World not sure if we spotted micky as they all look the same to me lol....Sorry we did not stay too long but my backs decided that its time it played me up again & wanted to make sure we got home b4 it got any worse...just took a handfull of tablets plus a couple of sleeping tabs...off to snooze...will be at Pickets tomorrow though...Thanks for sorting a good day out MMM....Voodoo....

I think Rick and I were the last to leave (4:30) after a really lovely day. It was nice to take my Grandchildren for a treat. They had great time especially on those fantastic play areas. Unlike everyone else, me and Rick missed Mickey. Hopefully catch up with him next year!

Just got home with the Essex tribe. We all had a very fine day. Good to meet up, especially my "big brother" Doc lol. The kids and grandkids all thank you for a lovely day out. Sorry, I dozed off when I got home, (so apologies for missing your phone call Rick), & have just got in from checking on poorly ponies with Taz. She sends her apologies for not being there today.
Yup, a very enjoyable afternoon out I think. The weather was great &, as always, it was nice to meet up with some of you lot.
As always, someone was late -yes, I'm talking to you Cabby! so we couldn't go in till they arrived -all 10 of them. That wasn't a family day out, it was an invasion force! Also, as always, someone was extra late & presumed not to be joining us -no names, but it was Simple Simon  -but like last year, the MonkeyWorld staff very kindly let him & his kids in for free anyway.
This isn't intended as an organised thing, just a free day out to thank you guys for supporting the site & contributing to the ape adoption. So once we'd all trooped through the gate everyone disappeared in different directions & did their own thing. We had a free entry ticket for up to 30 people & the girl on the gate said she counted 25, plus a couple of babes in pushchairs. So not a bad turn out at all -nice to see people making a family day of it. Makes a change to do something non vehicle related once in a while.
I did spot our boy Micky, but he seems to shun the audience & spend most of his time as far from the viewing areas as he can. He's easy to spot cos he's the oldest, greyest Chimpanzee in his group.
I stayed until about 3.30, then had a very pleasant, leisurely drive home through the Dorset countryside. Didn't get to say Goodbye to any of you, so to all who made the trip down to MonkeyWorld today, thanks for showing your support & I hope you had as nice a day as I did.
Make a note for next year -the last Sunday in April. Let's do it again.  ;)
