Title: metal bending on the cheap
Post by: SteveRedd on March 10, 2008, 04:59:27 PM
I posted this on Brit Chopper but thought you lot might like it too......

came up with this this afternoon so I thought I would share it...

take a piece of scaffold pipe and a clamp/joiner

slit with 1mm disc and a steady hand, then cut the clamp in half

fix in vice

bend up sheet metal, limited by your imagination

different lengths can be clamped by sliding the clamps along and tightening, together with gripping in the vice.

Longer lenghts  of higher degree bends, you grip one end of the tube in the vice horizontally or vertically and wrap the metal around the pipe.

Different diameter pipes can be used  as required and I suppose exhaust clamps or jubilee clips might do for smaller bore pipes

and much better than the complicated mess that I built to bend my fuel tanks over. I have seen a fairly brilliant piece of extruded ali on another forum that was used for all manner of bending opperations but can't find it at the moment, I'll post a link when I do as it is worth a look.

found it !, I was beginning to think that I had dreamed it all, shame really as that would mean that I had invented it and that would be a good thing, however I didn't but I have found it and that's a good thing also ( but obviously not as good ) Have a look at the video
