Title: Air compressor
Post by: merv on December 28, 2013, 03:19:54 PM
I'm looking at buying a compressor and I've come across a couple of used ones on ebay that keeps blowing fuses so they selling them as spares or repairs.
Would any one have an idea why this would be the case and would it be an easy fix
Thanks,
Merv.

replace the fuse with an m8 bolt or  a much safer way would look at the cost of a replacement motor

Hiya Merv. Any idea what size the motors are?
The larger motors will pull a higher current at start up than a standard 13amp socket can supply and need to be fitted on a seperate dedicated circuit, although this should be written in the instruction book, how many of us read those.
Or....
Compressors need to be started 'off load', if they are switched off at the socket rather than the on/off switch fitted to the compressor, the de loading valve will not operate and maintain full pressure load on the motor which in turn will draw more current as it attempts to start.
Or.....
It could be knackered!

Hi Merv, I have a good one for sale, was waiting for the new year to advertise it. I will put a picture and details on here on Monday when Im back in the workshop. It is one of the space saving types, where the motor and twin pump sit on top of a tank endways. so can stand in a corner.
Paul.

I paid a lot less for a worker of the same size (not sealey). Looks like an expensive gamble to me :(

New one here for less than 140

Well, you know what you are getting with an Ingersoll compressor, Quality! and the physical size of motor/ comp. looks right for the use......my compressor, as a matter of interest, I cobbled up 40years ago, using a double decker bus air brake compressor, and a 6' length of HD tube, with cap ends, as a reservoir! still going strong after all this time............Morrag
