Can any one point me in the right direction? I've just attempted to bend my first tube,1" n half with 3mm wall and its squashed it giving a flat spot.

Whats the general rule ? thought I'd ask rather than waste any more tube.Am I doin some thing wrong? saw a guy on youtube filling the tube with sand first .

The Clark bender is for bending pipe,
You say your tube is 1in is that the internal dia or external dia If it's 1in internal it's pipe if it's 1in external then it's tube.

i miss read it i thought it was 1 inch, if its inch and half, i bend 1.1/4 inch with out any probs, if its 32mm its not 1.1/2 are you sure you are not trying to bend 32mm in 1.1/2 former as that could acount for your prob, zak

Hiya.
We use 1" bore heavy gauge ERW for trike frames. Basic, red oxide painted "steam pipe". It's 1 3/8" outside diameter, so about 4.5mm wall thickness.
Quite easy to bend, but works well in a properly triangulated trike frame. It bends nicely in a normal Clarke 12 ton hydraulic bender. I set the rollers on their middle position, (I think there's 6 positions so they're on the third holes), & use the forming head marked 1".
I don't usually have to bend more than 90 degrees, but it does that with no problems. I'd suggest maybe you're using too thin walled tube, pipe.
