Here’s a sort of straw-poll question – what film do you think has the best car chase without the use if CGI ?
Reckon its fair to say Bullitt will be up there, as maybe The French Connection, Dirt Harry Crazy Larry, Ronin, The Blues Brothers, The Italian Job with Michael Caine, (Gone in Sixty Seconds with Nicholas Cage? – has CGI with the scene on the bridge!), The Driver with Ryan O’Neill, Drive, The Bourne Identity and Vanishing Point......
But how many have seen the original 1974 Gone in Sixty Seconds? It has a 30+ minute chase and was written, directed and produced by H.B. Halicki, who just happens to have the lead role as well as doing his own driving and stunts in the film!!! Oh, and he also supplied the vehicles, of which it is said that nearly 100 were totalled.

I always thought Bullitt was Number 1. Great in the old fashion cinema. I did see the original gone in sixty seconds, wasn't it lover boy and thingy I also rate the original Vanishing point. I have been laid up the last few days and watched Easy Rider, just for the music, strange film now I'm old.

I didn't realise the most recent 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' was a remake. A 30+ minute car chase!! Wouldn't that be too long? It would be like listening to a 30+ minute drum solo or watching a 30+ minute firework display. Even though I love all those things, that length of time would be overkill. I will have to watch and see if it also applies to car chases. I do love the 'Blues Brothers' car chase. It was on the other week. My favourite scenes are the chase, the country and western bar with 'Rawhide', the church scene and Aretha Franklin singing. Such a great film. A very appropriate emoji!
